lack of crayon pop imo
I'm not sure if you already know this or not, but there was no Crayon Pop before 2012.
More like lack of good songs this year in general. He wasn't even able to split it into 2 parts like in the previous years. But then it's not like he only chooses good songs lol.
EDIT: Well, I think it's mostly because this year had less comebacks and more nugu debuts.

It's not that bad. Everyone in KMD seems to hate a lot of songs I like. The live performance was pretty good, imo. People hated Ice Cream by Hyuna, but I actually like the song. The lame English made it funny, while there were other parts that were extremely catchy to me. Maybe it's just I don't hate any song.
Honestly, I know this is a discussion thread and people are welcome to their own opinions, but I feel the same way. I'm flat out lying if I say I'm not SNSD bias, but there's always a lot of hate coming from non-Koreans when it comes to SNSD songs (and a lot of kpop songs in general). For example, I love Paparazzi and Flower Power, and I recollect a ton of bashing from others shortly after their release. They have both grown on me and now top my playlists over the past couple of months.
One thing to keep in perspective in this topic. You like the song. Period. There's absolutely no reason to have to argue with someone else why a pop song is good or bad. They are pop songs after all. I feel that non-Koreans are overly critical of music especially because we grow up in a culture of a ton of genres of music. We all obviously have our own bias towards what sounds good and what sounds bad. Many tend to forget that the kpop industry isn't built upon being "musically good" that you would expect from say... classic rock (my bias), and it is more built upon producing singles that are good for Karaokes/clubs. Obviously, there still is a threshold on pop music on being just flat out bad, but in the end, Korea's music culture is built on like 70% pop, 25% ballads, 5% other (pulled numbers out of my ass). So while you will have a lot of haters here, I'm sure most of Korea would love to end a long day of work with kbbq, soju, clubbin and karaoke-ing with new kpop songs from their favorite groups.

The thing is this is a discussion thread populated by those who like and follow kpop. I get that foreigners in general would be pretty critical of kpop but the ones posting here are fans. The IGAB bashing is probably because it's just not that good relative to other releases. The song is catchy in parts but it's more like four songs dismembered then sewn together into a stuttering frankenstein. I doubt any but the most hardcore fans will be singing this mess in karaoke.
Every release that SNSD has put out lately seems to get bashed too much in this thread. Flower Power got bashed when the song was not that terrible and the album itself had some pretty good songs. IGAB is not that bad and the rest of the album is good. When TTS released their album some people were complaining that it was bad and that the teaser was better but the song was good and the rest of the album was really good. Maybe people just like to complain or there is nothing else going on so it's something to talk about.
TTS had some great songs, Library being my personal favorite among them. Their japanese album had a few good ones hidden in there aswell, but Flower Power and IGAB, oh man. I mean can't they atleast get someone to write actual lyrics and not random shit with even more random english? Making me cringe troughout a song is not a good way to convince me that it's a good song. Luckily they have some rather ok songs on the new albums. Seems to me thats the trend nowadays, horrid title songs but with decent/good songs on the rest of the album.
Edit: Going back listening to FP, it could have been a good song if not for the stupid english phrases IMO.

The Korean students at my college are the ones who are probably the most critical of kpop. The American fans generally like a lot more kpop than the Korean students, who like fewer songs than the American fans and often have supreme distaste when it comes to kpop. I think that they hate how superficial and manufactured their pop music industry is and would rather see "good" music as more successful. When "The Boys" came out, a couple of the Americans wanted to like it, whilst all the Korean students and I immediately HATED the song and wished it had never been made. I was playing kpop over the weight room speaker one night, and the Koreans who were in there lifting would somewhat enjoy some of the songs, but also immediately showed displeasure. I think another thing with kpop and them is that they don't want kpop to be representative of their culture and find it embarrassing to be associated with boy bands and aegyo pop.
When you said that

I think you highlight the situation best. We as a group aren't being more or less critical as foreigners when we judge kpop songs, we're just reacting to a pop song. The goal of a pop song is to appeal to the listener and, thus, make money for the record company and we as fans and consumers are the ultimate judge on whether or not the pop song increases our brand loyalty towards the group and whether or not the record company profits off the song. When we hear a song, we just offer our opinion on it, just as a Korean listener would. We're not neccessarily being "overly critical", as you put it, because of our foreign background, but rather because, in a way, each person's opinion is a correct opinion (we're not discussing the harmony of chords in Motzart or anything, we're expressing whether or not we want to give the businessmen money and "the customer is always right", as they say). We here are just expressing our opinions as do Korean fans do on Korean sites, whether those fans be biased, antis, or neutral. If we're "overly critical", then I wonder what the writers of the famous netizen comment are.

nobody wants their culture to be characterized by talentless and plastic men and women (I realize I'm casting quite a wide net, but that pretty much characterizes any pop industry). korea gets hits hard because they literally have the highest rate of plastic surgery in the world.
most of my korean friends irl think kpop is utter garbage and are ashamed to actually even be associated with it. can't blame them, of course.
imagine if your culture is viewed by the world as a "mass manufacturer of pop music" and the majority of your "idols" possess no actual talent apart from looking pretty (if you count that as a talent). there's obviously nothing WRONG with liking pop music, but having your entire country/culture be represented by it? i can already feel the disgust of every korean that has to deal with every mongrel that asks them to "do the horse dance by that fat korean guy xDDD"

Meh, TTS's song chose to promote was questionable; but the rest of the album was pretty solid. Most of people (me included) that dislike IGAB, and recent SNSD projects; not for the sake of being an anit, or hating on the group; but it's because the music released was subpar. Just because we dislike mediocre and poor releases doesn't make us antis; if anything most of us are fans of SNSD, and just saddened at a poor promotional song for their new album.
And errything pulse said was right. Though, I'd argue part of the native Koreans immigrants (not those born here) are somewhat proud of their increasing international influence; Koreans are VERY nationalistic; so pretty much anything that promotes more "korean" is good, that includes fat guys doing horse dance.
And I can definitely see where you're coming from on that. This does seem like an extremely unfortunate way to have your nation be represented to the rest of the world; I know Koreans are proud of their race, their nation, and its history.
