To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules; - Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up. |

I like the song, TVXQ and BoA are the only artists from SM I still like. I....I can't believe it... Someone in here actually (semi) likes a male kpop song...I must be dreaming I'm pretty sure I've said before that I generally prefer to listen to male groups since they tend to be of higher quality. This is only natural since female groups are mostly more focused on visuals than actual music.
That being said.. I wouldn't be interested in K-pop without the girl groups. It's what keeps me actively engaged.

Male groups in general have far more impressive choreo, partially because girl groups also need to do choreo that can be easily copied by the girl fans(think Gee, Hoot, Tell me, Nobody), list goes on.
Beast is prolly my fav guy band, their last album was a tad dissapointing though but Fiction was a really damn good album.

Majority of my playlist is male groups, I think new tvxq is pretty good. New ukiss is as well, now theres a group that gets 0 notice in this thread
Yeah loved the new U-Kiss song; the dancing is surprisingly quick and very cool.

Of course of course...you are in the same boat as 99% of people here and in the kpop world in general....
but that got me thinking (kind of on a really random side note) When I was watching this TVXQ mv for the 5th time now I just realized how epic it sounds. And then I thought about all of the 'epic' songs/bands in kpop, sort of like the deep and emotional beatles (yesterday)/led zeppelin(stairway to heaven) songs in the West that have become semi-legend. I think of old DBSK songs/ballads, I think of Rain with 'Rainism' and 'Love Song', I think of Big Bang's 'Haru Haru', I think of MBLAQ's 'Cry' and I guess a couple more. Then I realized that these were all male groups. I can't think of any right now, but does anyone know a genuinely deep, emotional song by a girl group that has reached the kind of 'epic proportions' these songs have?
( I have actually heard quite a few amazing songs vocally by women but it is from lesser known artists and their names are in Korean and so I'm not sure who they are)
EDIT: aha maybe rainism isnt that emotional, but its 'epic' so you get what i mean lol

@Kipsate....I saw KMK up close and personal on Saturday night!!! Sorry, I don't really have a HQ camera so no pics. But it was glorious. Just trust me on that. 4Minute was also there, sans Hyuna Beast and Teen Top had a good performance though.
Also, I need to recruit some help. I'm giving a Kpop talk to American scholarship students in Korea and need your guys' opinions on who I should talk about. Assume the big names (SNSD, Big Bang, 2NE1) are known. I'm looking for groups that are in with the new generation of high school students. Problem is I haven't been able to keep up.
So far I have:
Suzy Min Ah A Pink
According to Korean students these are a must.

IU, Beast, CNBLUE atleast.
Deep emotional?nope, probably because I can't really understand the lyrics either and a lot of them aren't written by themselves or seem to form a certain statement.

None of the songs you listed are on any kind of level of yesterday/stairway to heaven. I think you may need to take a break from posting again, that is just an awful comparison.

Thank you for my new wallpaper, that is the best Sojin one that's been posted!
Tuna part 2 will not be subbed. You can watch it without subs since it's just Kara and Secret going at it.

I don't think the number of albums sold by all kpop artists in history don't even come close to the 1+ billion by the Beatles dude.....
They've created their own culture where they have these songs in the same 'place' that the west regards those songs.....

Come on man, a song sounding pseudo-certifiably "epic" doesn't mean it gets to attain anything resembling legend status--and relative to anything whatsoever at that ![](/mirror/smilies/frown.gif)
I don't really know about the best criteria, but I like Davichi and BEG and think they're worth a mention for some of their music~

Korea has to have their own legends in the music industry...it is the same with every culture. There are some icons that will stand the test of time, and Rain and Big Bang certainly fill that criteria.

Girl groups got me into kpop but it does get kinda annoying seeing all the cutesy/doll stuff; 2ne1 is the only group that really stands out.
|
I would argue that that is an unfair comparison because the greats you've listed (and to whom you are drawing your kpop comparisons) are not only legendary in their home countries but also worldwide. So the kind of comparison drawn is rather frivolous. w/e don't particularly care enough either way to really get into it.

But that's not my point....at all....whatsoever.....
w/e nice talking to y'all again...
See you when the next TVXQ album comes out

I don't think Big Bang will stand the test of time. Their early work maybe, their current work is just following the meta.
|
Consider this. There has. is and will continue to be better music made in my country of birth and the reason I listen to kpop is because I like Korean ladies, both their voices and looks. Kpop boybands check no boxes for me. Zero.

See you when the next TVXQ album comes out Hey, I wasn't the one who had images (passages?) of legend-status music pop into my head upon listening to TVXQ and related stuff, and I wasn't the one who strongly implied a connection between the two in a post. I was just stating my qualms with this rather silly juxtaposition. If this wasn't your point, then just don't put the comparison into your post, as analogies are usually not great, unless you're explaining a complex topic to the uninitiated and you're only trying to convey very basic ideas.

Ya'll need to stop trying to make Kpop substantive and help me out with groups to discuss. Thanks.
|
I was trying to imply the opposite ;o
Are there any criteria besides groups that are in the same generation as high school students? Maybe Fiestar as well :D

Public speaking about kpop... What heinous crime did you commit that your punishment was this severe?
Been listening to some Joo tracks while getting very little done this morning. She has the perfect drama ost voice.

Talk about Phantom. They good.
