To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules; - Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up. |

I've seen it plenty of times, but I just noticed the guy in the back rocking out on the kahon. I love that instrument, though my hands get really sore after just 4 minutes, lol.

I thought people were saying it ironically. They're just as popular as you would expect a rookie group from a lower tier entertainment company to be. I hope people don't think this is "underground" if anything, I view them as the underdogs.

I don't think anyone ever said crayon pop was underground lol.
|
lol underground and on music shows? Does that even make sense?
|
Nobody said anything of the sort.

I don't think anyone called them "underground". New and not really in the limelight, sure. It's nice, in my opinion, to be following a new group from the beginning, especially when they have a real chance to make it like Crayon Pop does.

Much like following Apinku from the begining.

I don't even know which company Crayon Pop is from.
I was mainly just talking about following a group from the begining with passion. Apink is the only one for me since I've only been in the scene for 1 1/2 years.

A Pink is from A cube, which is from Cube, which is a subsidiary(or something like, very closely related to JYP) so they are bound to do well. Crayon Pop is from a no-name company so they won't gain any real success most likely.

Thank you. Just... thank you.

Are there any top idol groups who are not part of a large company or subsidiary company? The only one I can think of from the top of my head is Secret (new group, new company, no seniors) and that was 3 years ago.
|
Well, that doesn't really happen. Once a group "makes it", their company does as well, for the most part. I can't honestly think of any times where a group has gotten big, but their company doesn't put out anything else and remains in a corner of the market. That or they get bought by a bigger company.
It's highly unlikely that there is or will be such thing as an "indie group", especially in the competitive and volatile kpop market.

Sistar is from Starship, which isn't the largest company. Infinite is under woollim, which isn't the biggest either. Girl's Day is under Dream Tea, which afaik is also small. BEG is from Nega Network, but I have no idea how large they are.
|
Well, I know that in regards to Secret they said before that their company took huge financial risks (success or bankruptcy for new companys) and investments to get them popular. They had their own pre debut variety show too, but could only afford 4 short episodes.
I think people really appreciate BTS shows and documentarys on new artists, instead of showing a practice video with their nametags on. I do not see, with all the money people already put in, why they don't create their own in house self-vlog style 20 minute exposes and distribute it for free on social media.

I'm glad Soyu caught your eye, klogg.

Sistar is as good as it gets in terms of groups coming from small or medium companies being succesfull I think(although I am not sure how big their company is), GsD is doing decently but not amazing.
