It's the exact same thing. This stuff is just a new form of garbage american pop-star boy/girl band. In America this music has been traditionally reserved for girls in the 8-14 year old range.. It's not that I don't like it because its SUPPOSED to be for young girls like I'm too manly or something. I don't know I just don't get it and probably never will. The actual demographics that this kind of music is aimed at (in terms of girl groups) is middle-aged men.

It's not that I don't like it because its SUPPOSED to be for young girls like I'm too manly or something. I don't know I just don't get it and probably never will. now, this was probably a bad idea for you to post, because not much discussion can be had, and it's begging to be flamed, but i'm gonna treat it like an honest effort to understand or whatever: in my experience, music can either be called "materialistic" or it can be called "crap". most people disagree with me here, but seriously, i have yet to hear an honest-to-god good band that isn't interested in making as much money as possible off of their music. obviously there are extremes, some bands/musicians/groups seem to be making music just for the money, but then again, that's a motivation thing and i'm not into visiting other people's motivations. sure they could be "sell outs" but then again, they could actually enjoy making the music that i think is crap. i don't ask my plumber to love the pipes he works on, so i won't ask a musician to love the pipes they're playing a tune on. i hated Backstreet Boys because i thought it was lame and girlie. same with N'Sync, and Brittney Spears is also pretty girlie, and for some reason she never held any kind of attractive appeal to me. not to mention that those groups had, in my opinion, pretty atrocious music. maybe if i "gave them a chance" i would change my opinion, but therein lies the problem, i have no interest in "giving them a chance" or ever listening to them, ever. normally, k-pop would be the same shit for me, except one day i stumbled on a video of Gee and was like "dafuq is this?" and i thought it was hilarious, but i also thought the chicks were kind of hot. so i looked them up, found some more videos, thought some of the songs were catchy, and started looking into it more, and gained a kind of appreciation for the music as i went along. it's main draw for me is that it's catchy and has pretty good production value, and there is a lot of it. maybe some people enjoy the music for the music's sake, they like the melodies and harmonies, whatever. i like some of the melodies, but mainly, for me, it's just easy listening. i like me some classic rock and some new stuff too, and i'll never stop listening to that stuff, but when i'm just trollin the forums or writing some crap or whatever, i might throw on some k-pop just for shits and giggles. the musical value, to me, is higher than hip-hop or modern pop music... i can't explain why exactly, because i don't think it's an objective thing. Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and rap all suck (imo) whereas k-pop is usually halfway decent (again IMO). it's the same reason why i like some action movies and think others are processed poop factories. i can point to all the "objective" reasons, but then someone is going to say "nuh uh, it's actually not better" and who am i to argue with that? sure it's not beethoven, but that's not fair at all. personally, i think a lot of SNSD is better pop-music than the Beatles. both are simplistic, vocally based, and mainly a glam thing. also, i know a lot of dudes, and people over 14 that still love Backstreet Boys, and N'Sync. shit is pop, and pop has always had the image of being produced for little girls, when it is actually produced for mass audience consumption. subtle difference. little girlies just happen to be the main ones who buy the pop albums (or rather, convince their parents to buy the pop albums). i just realized how long this wall of text is... fucking boredom is a killer.
