Found a pic of CL. Not bad. ![]() On February 06 2012 16:17 DystopiaX wrote: ^yeah cause the sunglasses are covering her face. Perhaps this is the case. I didn't think about that.

Would you say korean entertainment is superior or steadly improving compared to american entertainmant and that korean entertainment has already, or will in the future over take american entertainment? i mean... korea has access to a huge market "aka china" and they are actively trying to make it work. i guess in terms of music, television/drama, movies, etc... "entertainment" is really broad. I listen to about 50/50 korean music/western music, although none of the western music is western pop so I guess you could say kpop has an edge over Western pop? I don't think it's superior, I just think that it's different and the ways that it differentiates itself from western entertainment appeal to me more than western entertainment appeals to me. It's not one is better over the other, I just never really liked western pop music at all but did like kpop. As for if it will take over american entertainment, no. Not big enough and there will always be more of a market for english things in American entertainment. Will korean entertainment become larger/be a significant market alongside the american market? Maybe, as with the whole China thing you pointed out, but it's not like one will "win" over the other. They will just exist in different niches for obvious reasons.

I would say that I'm one of those people who enjoy and consume Korean entertainment more than American entertainment simply because it's new and refreshing to me and frankly American entertainment is getting boring for me. American music? If its not about sex, drugs, or money I'd consider it but since 90% of the music today is consisted of that, I'm leaving that one out. American TV/Drama? Almost every kind of show has been used already and honestly I don't find many American series to be creative in a sense it draws the attention of experienced people who have watched every form of TV show in their life. Movies? Same with TV/Drama, almost every genre or plot has been used up already, however American movies are the only type of entertainment that still keeps my attention because of good sequels or movies with directors that know what they're doing. Sadly, I dont think Korean entertainment will surpass American entertainment because of how much of a bigger fanbase America has and the language barrier. I think of it as a hidden gem for those who can find it, whilst American entertainment continues to sell their overused, overhyped material to its money-spending audience.

May be cause it's new to you but many of the plots seem to be very stereotypical/generic in origin. K-drama is actually a step below the current trends in american dramas, damm how do i illustrate this for example, a decade ago when the rich kid (e.g boys over flowers) brings the girl back home, the mother kicks her ass and the boy saves her now (secret garden) the boy says the mum is right. what is happening is that the plot is acknowledging the cheesiness and the writer is engaging with a form of realism. the american drama today, takes things a step further (e.g LOST), it is unfamiliar, alienating to most casual viewers and requires sophistication. but this is precisely what makes k-drama so attractive, the stereotypical plot is recognizable and the development does not stray enough from the straight corridor so as to isolate the first time viewer.

Korean entertainment will never overtake American entertainment simply because English is the most spoken language around the world. I love korean (asian) dramas, they have amazing soundtracks and the characters are so lovable. I've cried so much watching asian dramas T_T can't say the same for American dramas... maybe it's because I just don't know what to watch or there's just no dramas about romance. Another thing is that American dramas are like 100+ episodes -_-' it gets boring...

Korea is mainly about kpop and kdrama/comedy. The US has everything Korea has and more. As a result Korean "pop" will be much more polished and organized than American pop because that's all there is in Korea. So you see these 6-year training sessions and debuts, comeback and goodbye stage cycles, and television airings, competitions, and shows for kpop because its become much more advanced than its American counterpart. In all other forms of music and television, however, the US reigns supreme. So its yes and no. Kpop is much more advanced than American pop. Other types of American music genres are much more prolific and entertaining. Kdrama and American drama are both equally boring and cliche these days, but American drama has the luxury of hundreds of top-notch actors and actresses to choose from, while Korean has...maybe 50, tops.
