To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

Yeah I just made the post to argue the fact that in reality, SNSD is not good vocally (in comparison to other groups ofcourse).

And in comparison to groups that has been around roughly as long as they they are quite good. If you compare them to After School, Kara, WG and T-ara suddenly they are quite good again.

Their debut stage was also far more demanding than A Pink's was so there's no wonder that they are a bit out of breath. That's probably one of the most demanding female choreo's that we'll ever see. I do agree with you that A Pink got good vocals compared to more or less every group and they do have potential, but it's just not fair comparing groups from different eras.

pre 2009 groups and post 2009...half the groups you posted came out in the first girl group "rush"- AS, T-ara, came out AFTER SNSD's popularity, so really it's like BEG, WG, and I'd consider BEG to be more talented and WG to be on par if not better...so not really.

by AFTER you mean during, hmm?

and let's just get this straight: who's on the other side of the BEG/WG comparison? SNSD? Well there goes that one year you spent here trying to get street credit, poof! lol

I think its perfectly fair to compare SNSD and A Pink especially since they've both promoted at the same time. You just have to compare the same time frame.

Its probably not too fair to compare their debuts since the standards have changed but I wouldn't find it unfair to compare My My to The Boys. You could argue that they're different styles of songs but in the end they're still both girl groups releasing kpop, and there's a clear winner in that fight to me.

I don't even understand your post..
they came out after SNSD came out, and I'd consider the whole "tell me" and "gee" to be a separate "era" than post that, because it's only after that that you get shitloads of girl groups debuting every year as a response to their immense popularity/everyone realizing what a cash cow girl groups are. So yes, T-ara/Apink/AS are in a different "era" because the conditions in which they are preparing for and debuting in are much different than the market that SNSD/WG debuted in.

And in context I think it's quite clear that I was comparing BEG/WG/SNSD since you're talking about the same era.

I'll ignore the shit about cred cause that's just dumb, I'm here to talk about kpop but I'm not pretending like I'm some kind of expert.

edit- ahh I see the confusion, when I typed after SNSD's popularity I meant after they gained MASSIVE popularity, or Gee promotions, which were at the beginning of the year (started January). Based on T-ara interviews most of them joined really late, particularly the Ji Ae/Jiwon replacements, so it's after that boom or as a response to companies seeing how well SNSD/WG are doing.

comparing anything to "The Boys" can only result in conflict

Now that I think about it, A Pink is basically just a much better version of SNSD. Here are SNSD and A Pink's debut songs live:

Now compare the two performances and which group performed better? A Pink. Vocally, SNSD is below average because out of nine girls, only one can sing. They also run out of breath and basically have no stamina during lives. Eunji is another tier higher than Taeyeon in singing because she controls her voice much better and Cho Rong/other lead vocalists in A Pink are also better than Jessica/Tiffany/Seohyun. SNSD sort of lucked out by debuting in 2007, which was basically the year that KPOP took off again after its first generation died off with the introduction of Big Bang, WG, KARA, and now SNSD. 'Gee' was also exactly the type of song they needed to reach the top (Almost no vocal, very catchy, basically the quintessential KPOP song). After that, anything they came out with was basically met with zero criticism because they were already known as the top girl group and had created a large enough fanbase that would dictate the public's view of them (although I do consider Genie to be their best song).

This is not supposed to be flame bait, but rather just a comment I have on SNSD and their singing in general. As this is a music discussion thread, this comment should be looked as not a "anti-snsd" post but rather an actual discussion about SNSD.

I dont understand why people feel the need to bash like that in general. Serously. Even if SNSD was the worst musical group ever, how the fuck is pointing that stuff out ever gonna make anything better?

To be fair, it's not like this is the first time that this has happened to any group, not just SNSD.

The fact that people are comparing HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE topics (i.e. WHICH GROUP IS BETTER IN TERMS OF VOCAL POWER) is actually ridiculous.

Has anybody ever considered that some people prefer a certain idol'(s) voice(s)? There's literally nothing you can do to change their opinions, and it's the way it is.

You can argue "oh but ______ can project his/her voice further than _______, etc - at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you enjoy the music being pushed out of the industry.

+ Show Spoiler +
Have anybody tried not listening to the groups that you don't like? I hear it helps.
