contains some spoilers about the first half of the movie, based on what they showed in the preview: + Show Spoiler + The preview started out with a short introduction by Cameron where he sums up the basic plotline and tells the audience, that all the scenes shown in the preview come from the first half of the movie in order to avoid major spoilers. The basic idea of the movie is that people go into these machines where they get linked up to their avatar in another world, kinda like in The Matrix. For the protagonist, who is in a wheelchair, this opportunity is perfect, since in the new world he will be able to walk again. I've seen a couple of IMAX 3D movies so far and the first few scenes of the preview didn't feel very different and I was almost a little disappointed. And then it happened. (obligatory cheesy line) Cut to a scene in the jungle. The protagonist is standing in the jungle with a rifle and opposite him is this gigantic dinosaur-like animal roaring at him, threatening to charge. And it looked soooooooo good. The details on everything and the sense of depth provided by the 3D aspect was just amazing. And once the next scene (where he was chased through the jungle by that huge black animal you see in the trailer) was over, people in the cinema were going whoaaaaa, holy shit because it was so intense. The rest they showed just kept adding to the experience. I can't tell if the story is any good, but it feels like your typical fantasy adventure movie, with a romantic subplot of course :O Basically, I can say that all the hype surrounding this project is justified and the trailer cannot do the experience justice; The 3D visuals were stunning and it really felt like witnessing the future of movies. I can't wait till December.

No matter how original James Cameron thinks his new "Avatar" film is, there have been lots of other works that seem incredibly similar to his movie. The filmmakers of "Delgo" are considering suing for stealing their story ideas, but that will probably go nowhere since the similarities are not that great. But now, io9 has noticed that "Avatar" may just be a rip-off of Poul Anderson's 1957 sci-fi short story called "Call Me Joe." The similarities are irrefutable and it would be great to hear Cameron admit that he used Anderson's writings as his inspiration for "Avatar." Like "Avatar," "Call Me Joe" centers on a paraplegic — Ed Anglesey — who telepathically connects with an artificially created life form in order to explore a harsh planet (in this case, Jupiter). Anglesey, like "Avatar's" Jake Sully (Worthington), revels in the freedom and strength of his artificial created body, battles predators on the surface of Jupiter, and gradually goes native as he spends more time connected to his artificial body. There are clearly lots of story similarities, but it doesn't end there. The cover (pictured) for "Call Me Joe" also features a giant, blue, cat-like creature holding a spear. Source: io9

Which is to say he wrote it. When it happened in Japan it wasn't quite as original, and now I can't get excited to see it happen in space.

New trailer. BY THE WAY, don't worry about the visuals. I know I may sound over-hyping and everything but I almost find it amusing to see people complain about the visual aspects of the movie. Its... honestly really AMAZING. I'm more worried about the dialogue and possibly story. Do I sound like a silly fanboy cunt? Of course. But hey, wait until December and you'l understand ![]()
