that is correct, the graphics for avatar are being done by weta workshop, a new zealand company, and the same one that did the special effects in Lotr.

Actually it looks so good because it's very low-resolution. If the same clip was in HD, the stiffness of the model would be obvious.

the night elves are pretty deep in the uncanny valley. the humans on the other hand looks really good, maybe on the edge of escaping the valley?

Ummm... They put a cripple into the NE body to infiltrate some other planet, he falls in love with one of the original NE's and they fight to get rid of humans who most likely want to destroy their home or something because there's this priceless resource blahblahblah... Seems rather cheese.
I just hope it won't be as much of a let down as District 9...

No way in hell are the humans in the trailer released today done with CGI (apple.com/trailers) - that's live motion, the rest is CGI. "On the edge og escap.." LOL! if that was CGI they'd be nowhere in sight of the uncanny valley.
