The story from the trailer looked kinda meh.

The visual effects look very pleasing to me, I will probably watch this movie just for them. Also I have never seen mecha and fantasy(?) themes mixed up.

Avatar and District 9 special effects are from the same company. But they are completely different.
District 9 should be compared to Pirates of the Caribbean I've seen Avatar in the big screen. Its very... different. its very awesome different. But you have to get used to it. Its photorealistic in a dreamy sense rather than a real sense.

No way in hell are the humans in the trailer released today done with CGI (apple.com/trailers) - that's live motion, the rest is CGI. "On the edge og escap.." LOL! if that was CGI they'd be nowhere in sight of the uncanny valley.
oh alright, I saw some video with a girl who was interviewed about Avatar, she was CGI so I thought most stuff were CGI... She was not quite out of the valley, very close though, but for the official trailer I thought they upped the quality or something.

Yeah. Effects were out of this world. But the story was complete bullshit.

Well D9 aside... The trailer looks sweet. There's no telling about the acting and how sick the 3D is, but if it's half as cool as it's cracked up to be... I'm fucking stoked!

Night elves vs Terrans - The Movie. Actually, that sounds like an interesting SC2 mod. :D

Avatar definitely has a different style of special effects. It has more of like that really crisp video game kinda look. It's awesome though, I'm not saying that the effects are poor in anyway, the movie looks amazing (visually speaking).

Naruto, its James Cameron's Avatar NOT the last airbender. There is another topic for that.

wait... the guys at 0.58 in the trailer are actually real actors right? Because on some shot you can see that the humans are CGI but in this shot they look like real people

yeah, definitely a different style, quite suprisingly though i think both movies have their effects done by weta workshop?

Yeah. Both are WETA.
But the two movies are trying to achieve completely different things.

Looks like early development of Protoss vs Modern Terran. Donde es Zerg?

The latest trailer for Avatar looked really good and the storyline and visuals remind me of a Halo/Starcraft/Star Wars hybrid. I just hope that all the high expectations/hype aren't for nothing and we all get at least one 10/10 movie this year.
