I'm happy and scared as hell at the same time. They seem rather fragile (their joints) and their accessories can be easily lost (the swords, the extra hands, the extra heads). The swords are my biggest concern. It's rather hard to put the Sabers in a good pose without securing safely the swords in their hands. The articulation is good. Head/shoulders/elbows/wrists/waist/knees and ankles all move. The only really visible articulation is the elbow, but it can't be helped. The others are nicely hidden by clothing folds or are on the inside. As the joints aren't very visible it gives the figures a very natural, non-mechanical impression. The details on them are fantastic. Their armor is really well made and detailed. The swords are well made also. SA comes with black Excalibur (without a sheath) while the normal one comes with both Caliburn and Excalibur, both with their own respective sheaths. Lastly and most importantly, the faces. They were a big selling point for me. These 2 figures come with 2 sets of faces: a "realistic" one and an "anime" type. The anime ones look a bit weird in my eyes, but the realistic ones pass the grade. The hair is nice, the eyes/mouth and nose are well proportioned. Ears are kinda huge, though xD. I think the cherry on the cake is that I got both of these on huge discounts. The vanilla Saber I got off amazon.jp 49% off (for 4200 yen) and the Saber Alter off of Mandrake for 3500 yen, which is less than half the price. Even when you add shipping to Europe, it's a great deal. Right after ordering them, I felt a bit regretful. I was thinking about 2 other figures. Namely thisone and this one. But now that these 2 arrived I'm satisfied with my purchase, and that's what really matters in the end, I think =). What I've learnt from all this:
That about wraps it up. Expect photos sometime today.

Gonna address some posts that I meant to reply to but forgot from over the weekend. On March 26 2011 10:52 Ferrose wrote: When I was making my list, I was like "Hmm, Hidan no Aria looks cool." Then I saw "J.C. STAFF" and crossed it off. It baffles me how they can mess up such good mangas/LNs -_- How much source material is there for Kizumonogatari? Multiple volumes like Bake? Or just like one where it could reasonably be made into a movie? One vol and can be significantly more condensed because of the action nature of the vol and much fewer characters. Also not nearly as reliant as Bake on the conversations thematically. So realistically a movie-length production should be strong enough. Also Hidan no Aria LN is supposed to just be Shana v 1.1 from what I've heard. I'd read it, but I'd much rather look around for better stuff like Kokoro Connect ![]() On March 26 2011 09:54 Versita wrote: Show nested quote + On March 26 2011 09:07 Ferrose wrote: On March 26 2011 08:45 Versita wrote: I agree that the members of the harem can easily be ranked in their skill level, and I was simply suggesting that Houki's ability as a pilot may not be as horrid as the posts in this thread describe her to be. While I do think that Houki is the least skillful pilot of the bunch, I don't think she's as horrid as you guys make her out to be. On March 26 2011 08:24 Ferrose wrote: Well, just judging from the anime, the only time we actually saw Houki fight, she got kicked around like a dog. I'd say she sucks. IIRC, Ichika got his ass whooped just as hard as Houki. Granted, Houki became a flying piece of junk after Ichika talked to her about saving the fishing boat, but Houki did her job escorting Ichika and engaging Silver Gospel so that Ichika actually hit it. Yeah, she did her job. Then she cried like an emobitch during a fucking battle. She's lucky that Ichika was there to sacrifice himself. I hear that for the scene in the LN, Ichika actually hugged her to defend her, instead of just standing in the way. lolol Also, IIRC, everyone was pretty apathetic going into the winter season. We didn't really have high expectations lol. Indeed she did start sobbing while in battle, which does not say anything about her ability as a pilot. I'm not saying that she's a good pilot, or that she just generally sucks ass. I'm saying that she's not an absolute pile of trash, which is the impression I got from some of the posts in this thread. Actually, in terms of talent, she is trash. She is no where near country-representative level and consequently she doesn't get nearly as much practice either. Incidentally even Ran scored an A in compatibility testing for IS, so needless to say the other 4 actual reps are all A as well (specifics differ some rather, but not too important here). Houki was like a C iirc, she barely scraped in the school. The nature of the complaint is more about how the author props up someone who has no natural skills and is regarded by a fair amount of people as being a sucky character using the dumbest plot armor. Or to put it another way, if you take Akatsubaki away from that broom, what is she (but a broom)? She actually has more development than anyone else. Rin had some hints of her family issues but haven't had the slightest word about it. Cecilia had some past thing that currently all resolved. Charlotte and Laura have funny orders and pasts and never got any more talk about it after their vol. Houki is the one with the most background and all, actually, and all that the background has served to do for me is to convince me that she blows as a character. Her conflicts are juvenile at best. Not that the others are better in that regard, but when you get nonstop description about something as stupid as her complex over Tabane...not because Tabane is freaking hax and world famous or anything like that, but because she had to move before she could confess to Ichika. What? Freaking confess already then, but no. Since you get adolescent tsundere crap that we have seen countless times up to this point and can guess every turn and nook. Follow all that up with some Rin style family conflict that's never elaborated on. Either the author sucks at writing (and to an extent I believe that is the case) or the character itself just blows. But yes, that crap takes up a ton of time and she has absolutely nothing skill wise to show for it, only serves to disgust the reader/audiences more to be honest. Incidentally + Show Spoiler [IS LNs] + every character but Laura's conflicts stems from some family thing, and most of them involve divorces. Can't we have a little variety. On March 26 2011 08:06 Versita wrote: Show nested quote + On March 26 2011 05:15 tonight wrote: Houki with her hair all down is the best. Don't kid yourselves, folks. I find Charlotte to be a much more entertaining character and Kana Hanazawa's voice acting is infinitely more cute, but I do agree that Houki with her hair down boosts her up in my character rankings. Also, to everyone saying how terrible of a pilot Houki is, consider that she's never been in a combat situation with her brand, spanking new IS before. Everyone else has considerable experience with their personal machines, and thus have developed unique strategies and fighting tactics that compliment their strengths. I do agree that Houki is currently a terrible pilot in comparison to the others with personal IS, but in her defense she's just been practicing with shitty training machines and I'd imagine those with personal machines get much more practice time. Actually, even those without personal IS can get a ton of training time, and Houki gets in a pretty decent amount of it. So I'll just minor spoiler my way out of this. Vol 5, Houki has been training using Akatsubaki for a while, still blows skill wise and winning relatively in comparison to the rest of the harem members on pure IS spec. Winning as in win rate vs Ichika, who gets some stuff that Cecilia can't beat by normal means. Whereas you see Cecilia practice nonstop trying to overcome that. Houki does nothing. Or she practices and shows 0 results. Either way, she sucks as a pilot. On March 26 2011 08:13 Spazer wrote: Ecael's read the novels. I'm just well versed in spoilers. More practice time does not a better pilot make (note necessarily, anyways). In addition, that theory hardly explains why Cecelia and Rin both suck so much. That argument might work for both Laura and Charlotte, but iirc, Laura is the only one with any sort of real experience. Edit: And just to preempt him, no Ecael, Tatenashi does not count. ![]() Edit: Kamina picture in SWL newspost omg. Edit: Make that two anime pictures. Who's writing this? If Tatenashi is a harem member, it'd be pretty sad. Too good for him, like Charlotte really. Cecilia and Rin aren't exactly bad, just that Laura is OP and Charlotte is awesome. More practice time doesn't make a better pilot necessarily, but when you have a fair amount of practice time and still suck... As an action show, it passed the grade. The main cast was all likeable, which is very rare for me these days. The average (or maybe not so average?) jap salaryman without hope nor future thrown into a world of current-day pirates is an interesting concept. Got some character development on Levy and Rock. Met Chin and Balalaika and that crazy bitchass maid. Also, smoking makes you cool, cool as a cucumber. I liked the nazi arc for the lulz. The only thing this show lacked was a main plot. During the 12 episodes, it was a series of mini-adventures rather than 1 big centric plot. Although it was great the way it was, I would have preferred some kind of a plot. Something to push them onward, something they could aim for. Felt like they were wondering aimlessly on the sea and in the criminal world. Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnGJuUVmGEk Shit is too cute. It's literally eye-damaging.

You prefer tearjerking "sad" anime such as Air or Clannad or what? I knew you would react, um, negatively to that post. Texhnolyze might be bleak in compared to the enormous amount of contrast-filled bipolar-syndrome shows where they cry one second and the next laugh and joke around like retards. Ok, Texhnolyze is bleak compared to pretty much everything. I cannot think of a single anime show (not movie), or even regular American TV show that is more bleak. You seem to be implying that I'm using the wrong measuring stick to evaluate the show. I don't know what metric you are using, but any reasonable one that I can think of would classify Texhnolyze as a pretty depressing show. When we for once receive a realistic anime which can be compared to movies in terms of consciousness, I'm not totally sure what you mean by this. Texhnolyze certainly has more realistic characters than most anime, which is laudatory, but I'm not sure what movies you think it is similar to (nor do I understand what you mean by consciousness in this sentence). I don't think that you can establish the type of mood Texhnolyze does in only a 2 hour film (at least, it would be very difficult to do well).you dismiss it as depressing and slow? And Texhnolyze is slow and depressing. I don't think that can be argued. If I don't like slow, depressing shows (well, actually I don't really mind slow) that seems like a valid reason to not be a fan of a slow depressing show. You prefer tearjerking "sad" anime such as Air or Clannad or what? You seem to be upset that I dislike aspects of the show that you do like. But that's not really an argument. At best, you can say I have bad taste because the only reason I don't like a bleak, dreary show which is the third-best show ABe has done is that I don't like bleak, dreary shows in general :/

I'm also wondering what are peoples' thoughts on Aoi Bungaku. I've read Jigokuhen, Ningen Shikkaku, and Kokoro in translation for school this semester, and I'm curious if their anime renditions are as evocative or if the literature itself is enough.
