You'd think they would read up on some SF over the infinite time that they have and try to figure out some things. Of course, it is just a nitpick on meta knowledge, but still. Steins;Gate remains, off the top of my head, the only VN/LN/whatever that actually addresses this issue.
I don't understand what pattern you are talking about, specifically to Madoka and generally as well. Do you mean how choice B instead of A could lead to a different turn of events, and time travelers should predict what the consequences is to be?

Basically there are a few patterns in terms of time travelling and how it works. In this particular case, + Show Spoiler [Madoka] +certain events can be considered as converging points that is triggered by other particular events. So when Madoka made contact with QB, Homura stopped pursuing knowing that it would lead to Mami and the rest working together. Homura seems to know a bit of how events would turn out, and I am pretty certain she has done more time travels than shown.
At any case, the way to get out of this end so far requires a few things. First, Madoka must not contract. Second, Homura must be able to take care of Walpurgis' Night without looking like she needs Madoka. In that sense, barring something truly random from Madoka, she is already doomed on this cycle - she can't take it alone. Even a veteran Madoka + Homura cannot take Walpurgis' Night. So in all, Homura needs to achieve a perfect end in that both Mami and Kyouko must not die. Sayaka in this equation is hard to figure out, as what event cause things to converge on her contract is unknown to us.
But yeah, in all, if Homura read SFs in general and thought more about her actions, she'd know that how she is tackling the issue atm is definitely not going to do anything. But yeah, there is no such way to work this kind of meta knowledge into characters.

+ Show Spoiler [Madoka] +Well they can defeat Walpurgis, but just can't so that both will live. One of the scenes were them defeating Walpurgis and Madoka giving grief seed to Homura, asking for her last wish.
What you say is true, that this is a doomed end from the information given. Hmm, the best chance they seem to have is Homura going back, and everyone except Madoka teaming up to win

+ Show Spoiler [madoka] +SALES AND MAKING MONEY WINS OUT THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A GOOD ANIME THANKS SHINBO
i dont think that a "good end" or getting out of the mahou-shoujo-cycle will be the conclusion, possibility of leading normal lives or surviving after walpurgis is bleak, unless kyubei is gone. i think one of the key notes is kyubei's comment about how homuras wish > entropy.
edit: actually i realized that madoka's wish could theoretically break everything

Rabid, connoisseur of anime as well.
+ Show Spoiler [Madoka] +Yeah, everyone living and not being Mahou Shoujo is too good to be an end. However, I thought Homura's wish increased entropy?
Well what if Madoka kills herself after defeating Walpurgis? That's a possibility isn't it - though that'd be unpopular.

+ Show Spoiler [madoka] +Homura is gonna die during Walpurgis and Madoka is gonna form a contract with Kyubey to go back to the past and save Homura before she ever becomes Puella Magi. I said it first.

+ Show Spoiler [madoka 10] +that episode was freaking amazing. Wow, I just gained like more respect for all the characters. And I actually don't find Madoka or Sayaka as annoying anymore. Wow. When they were all killing each other, that was just wow. Homura is soo bad ass with that giant machine gun. Oh man, and the most painful part is that only she remembers everything, and that madoka forgets everything. Wow, I don't think it would be a happen ending but these guys surprise us with every episode so wow, we can only hope.

Madoka still isn't out on Nutbladder.
...Why am I loyal to Nutbladder like this? What have they done to deserve this? Should I go to the dark side and download from 66?
Well, at least I have Pokemon to entertain me while I wait for Madoka.
Edit: Got to a grinding part in Pokemon. -_- Anime time.

Join the dark side, please. All i have to say without spoiling anything

Madoka + Show Spoiler +I'm surprised she hasn't tried to repeat the ending where they both survived but Madoka only had 1 grief seed with her. She could have stocked up a bazillions grief seeds and then save the day. EDIT : I guess her goal isn't to just save the day, but to make sure Madoka doesn't become a Mahou Shoujo. Then my idea doesn't work.

+ Show Spoiler [IS] + It was fine up until The class A mission. Tabane would be annoying if she looked any different then she does now. I don't remember much cause MADOKA IS FUCKING AMAZING

Letting her become a mahou shoujo, wouldn't really be saving her, cause eventually she'll become a witch, or at least have a chance to become one. Whereas if she doesn't become a mahou shoujo then there is no chance that she becomes a witch, therefore she has held Madoka's dying words, true.

The IS episode wasn't that great this week, but the Madoka episode was fucking GOLDEN.

Yea I know, im sorta glad that IS isn't good because it just makes Madoka that much more epic in comparison.

+ Show Spoiler [IS] + I was a few minutes into watching when I started thinking "when is this show going to get serious, there are only 3 episodes left?..." until I realized that I would probably hate it then because I love watching horrible rom/coms. Then it did get serious and I was even more amused by how serious every character looked in the briefing meeting and how absurd houki's sister is. I think that this is a good change for the show as I was tiring of endless awkward moments where orimuna is left clueless surrounded by girls. Now I get to see stupid characters pretend to take dumb tasks seriously, which should keep me entertained for the last few episodes.
