2 episodes in and it's good. Hard to tell as nothing much happened, right now it feels like a build-up to the story.

It's one of my favorite games of all time so I'm kind of scared to watch it. Waiting to see how it pans out although I'm hearing good things so far.
I know they've kept most of the music which is a massive plus for me.

Seems to be good so far. At least for the first episode. It looks faithful enough to the game

Tomo-chan is a Girl is a blast so far. Ningen Fushin is OK, nothing groundbreaking but not bad either. Handyman Saitou has great promise, hoping we'll get more fully fleshed episodes later as currently it's a bit too all over the place with multiple unrelated short stories crammed into every episode (they're all good, but leave you craving some more substance).

Watched the first 2 episodes of NieR and it's decent so far. Ep1 was a bit bland but ep2 was more intriguing. What I don't like so far are the characters and their interactions. They don't seem to fit the setting nor situation...

Ep3 of Nier was decent as well. Still don't like the characters but the setting is nice. For those who have played the game: Are the characters and how they act the same or is this an anime thing? I also can't believe they used so much crappy cgi for the battles but the animation of all those automatons looked actually good... Apparently ep4 is being delayed until further notice because of covid...
Hikari no Ou ep2 was fantastic. Some janky animation but I felt like this could have been a design choice - until I took a look at the forums and the anime is apparently doomed according to the "experts" on MAL...

Nier characters are how they appear in the game. I don't think I fully understand what the issue is you have with them though, so I can't really say. 2B is short with her responses. 9S is talks a lot and is earnest. The background characters are pretty much spot on. Except Jackass. They were nerdy but not to this extent.
Buddy Daddies is pretty cool, will keep that on rotation. Chillin in my 30s is good as well.

It's a bit hard to explain. I suppose it's that they don't fit the setting nor each other. They feel like someone made some bullet points and then they wrote dialogue and voicing direction in the typical exaggerated 20's anime style. 2B and 9S have no chemistry but I feel like the show tries to convey they do, which makes me cringe. Their attitude would also fit into any highschool anime, no changes needed. Imho that doesn't fit into a post-apocalyptic world at the brink of humanity's destruction.

Well I think that mostly comes from their "programming" so to speak. 2B can't be bothered with emotions as her mission is to kill machines and that's it. 9S wants to understand more and that causes him to seem more earnest than 2B. So that's probably the disconnect. 2B is a product of strict rule adherence and 9S is just curious. I mean, playing the game would probably solve a lot of your questions. 2B has some character development and stuff. But if ya don't like it, ya won't like it lol.

I planned on playing the game someday but my backlog is huge... Hence I asked because if this was an anime thing, I could probably skip the anime and just play the game instead.

That makes two of us hahaha. I won't even look at at my PC catalog. I'm trying to remember if the game was fully voiced or just text. If anyone wants to chime in, I'd appreciate it. But it could be the case where the anime is taking that liberty and doing more than what the game did. That's already apparent in the first 3 episodes (I don't remember the last fight of 3 or anything that happened in 2)

Finally finished Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. It started great, then it got a bit weird for a Gundam series where there was this happy go lucky teen lesbian drama but it got back on track and the ending was perfection. Can't wait for S2 in April.

Kinda happy I didn't drop Thongguo Qi Tan after ep1 because ep2 was actually very stylised. Not amazing but decent enough and you don't see this type of stuff everyday.

With my VN backlog, I'd probably get to it maybe December of this year.

Gotta wait and see. Anime condensed story might be just what I need. In the game the world and story were interesting but the gameplay itself was not my cup of tea and I got bored real fast with it.

Loli factor drives me away from it. Not really interested in seeing anime about kids.

Yeah, it wasn't too bad in season 1, which I really liked. Or more like the focus was on other topics so that loli stuff lingering didn't bother me as much. But s2 cranked that up to 11 and put it front and center. Unfortunately, that wasn't even the only thing that went utterly wrong with s2. It felt like they threw everything good from s1 out of the window and just made a season full of melo dramatic horseshit, edginess and fetishes. Easily one of the most disappointing second season ever.
