And that's not even mentioning things like Bocchi, Blue Lock, Spy Family, Eminence in Shadow, Gundam in other genres. I'm really curious what makes CSM stand out, beyond the visuals/animation which are again top fucking class.

The direction is also very good. Speaking from an anime-only perspective CSM is an amazing show in that it actually tackles some hard mature themes behind all the absurdity. It really is a show primarily about trauma, how different kinds of trauma can affect a person and skew their perspective on life and how different traumatized people interact with each other. I guess most people just watch it for the shits and giggles, the over the top action and overall sillyness but behind all of that is a carefully crafted and masterfully executed tale of deep darkness. I guess in this matter it kind of reminds me of Cross Ange - a show where you expect scantily clad babes duke it out in mechs (and you get that) but under this shallow veneer lies a really sad and dark story with some heavy themes and slowly discovering facts about the world with some twists truly blows your mind. The show is great but I can hardly rate it as the best this season. There are definitely shows on par with it but they're in different genres so can't really say one is better than the other (SxF, EiS etc.).

My point is that there really isn't any hard hitters this season, including CSM. The hype surrounding it basically comes from manga readers and that point starts at the story going forward from episode 8 because its a wild ride until the end of Part 1 of the manga. It wasn't considered that great of a manga either until around this point in the series. If it didn't have that hype going in it would have likely gone under the radar because of its slow start. Probably my 2nd favorite show so far this season that isn't talked about much is Reincarnated a Sword. Its a pretty good Isekai and the adaptation has been solid so far. Its also funny that Reincarnated as a Sword got brought up because it is also in my "list of anime better than CSM this season". Fran is in fact the cutest murderhobo and more people should watch it because we've finally gotten to good Isekai now that the industry has reached the logical conclusion of SAO clone 42069 and needs to actually innovate on the formula.

How to run your creation into the ground. No wonder fans are dropping it when after 218 chapters of manga it has gone absolutely nowhere and most obnoxious and disappointing MC ever has regressed instead of progressing (hard to imagine that since I didn't think a person could get any worse than this MC).

+ Show Spoiler + The end sucked though. Why did they have to add Mob being hit by a car saving a kid? So unnecessary. There was enough drama as is. This turned it into melodramatic bullshit.

It could be a really good show but for that the MC would have to be changed quite a bit and the story should be wrapped up in about 2 anime seasons (no idea how much that is in manga chapters).

No development at all, doesn't get any less annoying and it was just grating too much on me. It was a bit similar in Re: Zero but there at least the plot moved forward and other characters were doing something so there was something to look for despite MC being garbage. I absolutely hate MCs that are all about "everything will be fine as long as you try and are determined enough" and are trying to push their agenda on others. RaG protagonist is even worse though, no growth, total idiot, super awkward even in situations that don't call for it etc. It could be a really good show but for that the MC would have to be changed quite a bit and the story should be wrapped up in about 2 anime seasons (no idea how much that is in manga chapters). Exactly this. As much promise as it had, it's turned into garbage. Hate series that do that so much. Start off with potential to be good and then it just turns bad. Bocchi is the same. I tried it out after someone mentioned it, and the MC is just...insufferable.

Why like Chainsaw Man? I think for the same reasons people liked Tokyo Ghoul. It is a sort of urban action adventure fantasy, where everything is familiar except for one big difference. This difference makes the world like a more interesting version of our, but it also means the world is way more dangerous. Of course, there has to be more to it than that characters have to interesting and all the usual good stuff like that.

It's not a strong season but it isn't as bad as some. Why do people praise Blue Lock so much? I got bored after 3 episodes.

I wasn't going to watch it since I typically don't do sports anime, but I wanted to check it out. It's pretty good. Characters are interesting enough. Plot seems simple but I think it'll develop soon. You can stick to your anime you like. You don't have to like Blue Lock. It's okay.

Its so simplistic and yet just funny, i really like it a lot. If you got to ground yourself after watching a visual firework you could give it a try Is it actually good? My friend group has been memeing on it since we saw the poster for it, but never watched it
