Outside of that he is pretty much just a normal guy who isn't propped up by plot like Shirou for example or being a fully combat trained merc like Kiri. He is kinda like Waver in Zero but without the formal mage training. He is basically the last choice Chaldea would want in his position, they just don't have a choice cause he is the only one left. Kinda the weakness of a gacha game MC where the focus is more on the servants. The anime is using more of the better dialogue choices you can have for them but yea in combat the master is purely support who gives out orders. had they used gudako instead as an MC it would had turned into a completly different anime lol But yeah, male MC is super bland. The person who plays the game is in the shoes of the MC so understable why it's the way it is.

This was a fan-made animation clip released earlier this year when FGO Babylonia animu was announced and it was pretty hyped and well-liked on Twitter. Glad to see CloverWorks didn't disappoint with this actual scene. Ushiwaka deserves all our headpats~

This goes for anyone else who’s thinking about following the animu but daunted by barrier of entry. I’ll do a generic overview of the series that I think new watchers will need later today.

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. At least America was ok but FGO didn't start to become good story wise until Camelot when they started to take writing the story seriously.

Either way, I did some digging and found FGO no commentary playthroughs if someone is somehow curious enough... Fuyuki, Orleans, Spetum, Okeanos, London Camelot, Babylonia, Solomon America, the 5th Singularity, is missing between these two playlists but it shouldn't be too hard to search for. Like Slaughter said, a lot of the early Singularities were fairly poor story telling and it wasn't until Camelot, Babylonia, and Solomon, where Nasu took over as lead story writer, that FGO really became popular. FGO, at its basest, is a waifu simulator. Most people, myself included, got into the game due to certain characters then stayed because the ingame story became interesting enough. I'll give a quick rundown of characters and backstory that should be sufficient for someone that just wants to watch the anime. + Show Spoiler [characters] + Ritsuka Fujimaru: plain, self-insert MC that isn't supposed to be powerful or surprising. He is a subpar mage yet the last one remaining in Chaldea after a terrorist attack that occurred in the game's prologue (pre-Fuyuki). All other mage candidates died in the attack or are in cryostasis to rehabilitate. He's portrayed as an earnest character, who more or less makes it through all the past singularities thru luck and willpower. Just your usual shounen things. Except expect him to get carried a lot until the final moments, etc. Only thing particularly special about him is his ability to contract multiple Servants (which is pretty abnormal considering all other Fate works). Players of FGO will refer to MC as Guda or Gudao (fMC as Gudako). People rarely call him by his given, in game name due to length. Mashu: She is the third Servant summoned by Chaldea and the first one to be contracted to Guda. She's a Demi-Servant, which means she's part human and part Heroic Spirit. As of the Camelot Singularity, we know that Mashu is fused with the spirit of Galahad, a knight of the Round Table. If you've read Arthurian lore, you'll know the importance of Galahad. Dr. Romani and da Vinci: Chaldea co-commanders, they observe and provide support to Guda and Mash while they reyshift (jump) into Singularities. Romani is human, just like Guda. da Vinci is the second Servant summoned by Chaldea but rarely goes out into Singularities. She normally provides support back from base. Fou: pet and mascot of Chaldea, who doesn't really play a role until the final Singularity, Solomon. Unbeknownst to Guda and Mashu, Fou possess human-level intelligence. He knows and resents Merlin due to their history together. Gilgamesh: Gilgamesh Caster here (as opposed to Gilgamesh Archer, from other Fate series). Still follows rl Epic of Gilgamesh lore for the most part. Is considered wise king of Uruk. He is clairvoyant, meaning he can see a timeline where this Singularity isn't fixed, which leads to the end of humanity. So he's doing everything in his power to avoid the end of days. In order to do so, he's summoned Servants as well, including Merlin, Ushiwaka, Benkei, Leonidas, Tomoe Gozen (killed in action), Ibaraki Douji (ran away to Mt. Ooe) + Show Spoiler [Story thus far...] + Guda and Chaldea have restored six Singularities prior to Babylonia. Singularities are considered distortions in the human timeline, if left unfixed, can lead to the Incineration of Humanity. Singularities are created by Solomon, King of Magic, who's growing disdain of humanity, has decided to wipe the slate clean of them. Each Singularity is triggered by the appearance of a Holy Grail. So in short, Guda's goal is always to obtain the Holy Grail at each location to erase the Singularity and restore time into the order in which it should be. Babylonia is unique in that it actually has two Grails, one placed by Solomon to create the Singularity in the first place and a second found by Gilgamesh, allowing him to summon his own Servants to help combat the invasion of the beasts.

We hope they will animate Solomon but people really don't care as much for the previous ones as their quality runs from mediocre to poor since it was just a bare story to have an excuse to use the servants you like. Then FGO started gaining traction so Nasu took over writing then the game exploded because it became a gacha game with an actual good story.

If not watch, Fate Stay Night and Fate Zero as they are complete stories in a way that FGO is not and seem to be better written stories anyways. There's no point watching FGO if you don't play the game or have watched any of the other Fates anyways.for real tho what do I need to know to get into FGO?
