yeah I think that fits my perception of it quite well. Couldn't really put it into words when I watched it but I really felt meh about it. When Neo asked me about why I don't like it despite it being lots of dialogue and all I just said something along the lines of
"idk, I just get the feeling that it's trying to sound smart rather than it actually being smart"
I get that people would compare it to OreGairu or Monogatari in the way it's trying to portray itself but it's just not anywhere close to either for me.
That being said, I still stand by what I said in that I think there's a chance it's hard to judge early on. Kinda like the mayoi arc in Bakemonogatari if I had to come up with a comparison. Could very well turn around in 2 or 3 episodes and suddenly be amazing but who knows. I'll def watch up to ep3.

How anyone can consider Goblin Slayer good or even worth to spend time on is beyond me. It's a blatant Berserk ripoff that does literally everything worse. Boring MC, story, sidecharacters, art, villians.
The only memorable part is it's cheapass exploitation fiction. "wow"

idk, I'd rather watch Goblin Slayer than Berserk tbh but I don't like the genre in general so the humour you get from Goblin Slayer is at least something for me.
But that'd be like telling Sent "I liked gundam XYZ better than gundam ABC because it was less about robots and more about [insert whatever else]"

But that's sort of the point. They are the same genre and Goblin Slayer does literally nothing better. The only thing it can match is gore-shock value (if we pretend The Eclipse didn't happen), which leaves Goblin Slayer just a exploitation work if you like that all the more to you. I just find it horrible lazy writing.
It's like listening to some random shitty composer when you have a Bach vinyl sitting right in front of you.

Yeah but then is Berserk really about gore? Not that I've watched or read it but I'd assume there's some underlying story or motif behind it rather than just gore for the sake of gore, no?
