Nana, Ono Daisuke, Fukuyama Jun and a shitton more here and there that a bunch of people like are all voicing in this. Maybe BigFan recognized a couple of the voices or names? He's finally becomming a real fan! I should probably apologize a bit even if the show really is as generic as everyone says it is because that deserves some acknowledgement if nothing else"
only to find out that you're talking about the (supposedly) super generic characters... Give me back my acknowledgement! Or rather I'm happy I never voiced it out loud
haha my bad, should've let you dream a bit more ~
Edit: well, seeing as no one gave any recs, guess I'll try Fairy Tail out.

I know you have watched Yu Yu Hakashu before. Did you watch Hunter x Hunter (2011)? Katanagatari? Sports anime would probably fit as well. Haikyuu maybe?

yes, watched YYH, HxH and Haikyuu. Never watched Katanagatari, will take a look. Synopsis sounds interesting. Gonna check out Fairy Tail first then Katanagatari.
On October 26 2017 01:40 BigFan wrote: haha well, an intriguing story and a decent cast with magic and no ecchi in there. Is that really 95% of generic shounen series?
Just an FYI, you said no ecchi, which most certainly disqualifies Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail is like One Piece, except with "magic" (because any bullshit=magic), and then any plot replaced with PLOT. One of the big selling points for Fairy Tail is the massive amounts of fan service in that show.
Katanagatari is a much better choice, IMO. Don't let the 'gatari' part trick you, since it isn't related to garbage like Bakemonogatari. Its a very talky show, but also has a decent cast of characters and plenty of cool stuff. Also Yukarin as the main girl~
Yea if you want no fan service Fairy Tail isn't for you. I mean I love Fairy Tail (especially the 1st half) but it isn't that great of a series outside of the earlier part of the series and a couple of characters (70% of the reason I read Fairy Tail was for Erza).
One Piece on the other hand is a master piece.
Kind of sounds like maybe My Hero Academia might be up your alley?
Watched first 2 episodes of Fairy Tail, it's been ok so far and ya, didn't realize it had that much fan service. I'll try Katanagatari then and see how that one goes. Already watched My Hero Academia and caught up on the manga too but yes, I want something along those lines. A setting where the MC is underestimated and slowly works his way up getting better with each fight in order to reach some goal (hokage, wizard king, whatever). Would be nice to have magic as well. I'm sure there are some shows out there that have that I didn't watch yet, just lots of stuff out there to sort through.
@bigfan the most generic of shounen anime ^^ If you haven't seen them already, watch One Piece, Bleach, DBZ and Fullmetal Alchemist. For newer shows you could watch Kill la Kill, Shoukugeki no Souma and if you want something somewhat underappreciated watch Sousei no Onmyouji.
Also Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? is really good but doesn't do the generic shounen thing.
Seen DBZ, good portions of FMA, not interested in OP and heard how Bleach became bad after x episodes. I watched an episode or two of KLK when it first aired, no dice unfortunately. Shoukugeki no Souma is supposed to be ecchi, no dice either. Watched Sousei no Onmyouji when it aired, stopped at the episode where that little girl goes back but it was really boring then so dropped it. Should've ended when they fought the brother instead of all those fillers afterwards.
Never tried Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo, will put it on the list. As for Katanagatari, first episode wasn't too bad. Hopefully the rest are even more entertaining. Thanks for recs all!
You watched Fairy Tail and didn't notice all the ecchi. BigFan maybe you just secretly enjoy it? It's not healthy to lie to yourself. Embrace the inner perv.
Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? is just a poor mans NGNL imo. Would scrap that. It is to NGNL what the smartphone anime from last season is to SasuOnii. Sure there are a lot of people who might not like it but NGNL/SasuOnii at least made the bullshit OP MC entertaining in some way.
The only redeeming quality it had was the bunnygirl being a bunnygirl and this adorable dance of some Blanc ripoff character on the right:
It came out before NGNL though. Also I don't think they're even that similar other than being in a fantasy world and having an overpowered MC. I have no clue what SasuOnii is, thanks for abbreviating. NGNL is really good too.
That's right, bunnygirl is best character. She makes the show 10/10 :D
Mondaiji is way better than ngnl. It actually takes its female characters seriously for one and gives them long character arcs. Tbf it has like 10+ more volumes counting the main series and it's sequel, last embryo.

bahaha I watched 2 episodes. First didn't have much in it, second was much more and then I also saw the comments here about the fanservice so I'm not watching it anymore XD
I actually read Nanatsu no Taizai at one point but stopped so never checked out the anime. Blue Exorcist, read about but never watched. It has a good rating on MAL but it seemed ok overall from the comments I read. I see complaints of direction and such. How was the story in your opinion?
Never read Nanatsu no Taizai, only watched it. Loved it.
Blue Exorcist, watched both seasons, and read up to where the anime animated. - first season had good first half, second half sucked because at that point, it caught up to the manga and had nothing to animate, so did what all great anime do when that happens (/s), they made an anime original ending. It sucked. - second season remedies that by ignoring the entire first season's ending, and picks up off where it diverged, and follows the manga. lol. I enjoyed it. It was a little confusing at first because of how long the time gap was since I watched/read it, so I was a bit confused, then realized they ignored the anime original ending.
