If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

Well i appreciate all your well intended and useful help .
First Miragee, I already watched like 2/3 of the animes u brought up, and i loved all of them, so i will definatly have a look at Gunslinger Girl, Bounen no Xam'd, Kemonozume, and of course Serial experiments lain (started it once, but stopped cause had no time at that time). Thx a lot!

Then, after the convincing arguments, that Bigfan brought up, for "School Days", i was pretty hyped and jumped right into it...
But honestly i think this was a bit TOO much for me. I couldnt bear the sheer Brutality and Violence of this show.
In Fear i closed my eyes and hold my ears all the time, so i decided to drop it again, just to preserve my mental health.
Still thx man, but maybe next time you could recommend me something a little bit softer.

How about blood C. It's hilariously bad but really bloody and gory and dark. It's not deep. I don't remember there being any superpowers or magic (the other shows you listed have elements of these so I'm not sure why you dislike them). It's also short. Great for a fun laugh.

Am I doing this right.

i mean... it is pretty violent I guess... just not until you somehow managed to get past 3/4 of it.

I still laugh everytime I think about that video someone posted with all not adapted endings like the breadknife on the bridge, the train etc.
Don't think you're supposed to laugh during those scenes but couldn't be helped

Sure, you're welcome.

//Finished the Aoi Bungaku Series. Final verdict 7,3/10. Stories:

- No Longer Human (8/10): 4 very good episodes about disconnection from society, suicide and guilt.
- In the Forest, Under Cherries in Full Bloom (5/10): weird adaption of a classic novel revolving around fear
- Kokoro (7/10): A two sided story about love, egoism, guilt and the pain of a broken heart.
- Run, Melos! (8/10): 2 fantastic episodes, very cinematic, intertwining reality, past and a theater play into one string of plot.
- A Spider's Thread: Good episode of a tale about egoism, realisation and self-reflection. Quite brutal for a kid's story. :o
- Hell Screen (8/10): Brilliant episode about artistic vision, sacrifice and terror of an empire, all well visualised.

All in all I only didn't like the second arc. Everything else was very interesting and well adapted for the short amount of time they had imho.

Sakura Quest EP 13: + Show Spoiler +
Wow, Yoshi & rest got rekt hard this episode. The festival went about as expected, the fans just went for the band and didn't give a shit about the rest. And then that TV spot.

Oh well, they'll manage! That dramatic ending though, I think she's just visiting her family or something.

Just finished Clannad. Thought the serie was ok, nothing exceptional. Hopefully the second season is better

Out of curiosity, is there an anime built upon the concept of "the needs of many outweigh the few"? I was just thinking philosophy + star trek. In the mood for something about sacrificing oneself (voluntarily or by force ) for the greater good!

Madoka, if you haven't watched it, is basically built upon that concept

infact it seems to be a common theme in urobutcher stuff i guess (fate/zero)
From the Ghastly Eyrie I can see to the ends of the world, and from this vantage point I declare with utter certainty that this one is in the bag!

Psycho-pass is pretty famous for that. Despite how popular utilitarianism is as a theme or a character's motivation I can't think of many shows that center around it though.

I disagree, Madoka was more about "be careful what you wish for" and the utilitarianism was shoehorned in the show because of Urobuchi's hate-boner for it.

Yeah, already watched Psycho Pass + Madoka! I'm not sure Madoka is utilitarianism, except maybe for the part where she gives herself in to end the final boss, knowing the consequences

Bokurano, Infinite Ryvius, Evangelion, Erin, Rewrite (but it sucks), Samurai 7, Seirei, etc.

Edit: Zipang. Heh.

It's not that uncommon. It largely depends on how far you stretch the definition. You could even make an argument for stuff like Berserk.

Praise for Clannad is entirely because of After Story. This also holds true for the VN. Heck, you could argue this holds true for every VN by Key.

yeah, just don't think about anything else until you finish Clannad ~AS~.
Everything else pales in comparison.

If you haven't seen Code geass though, then you definitely should. After ~AS~ that is.

Psycho pass I don't really recommend. Some major plotholes completely ruin the experience. At least they did for me.

You asked about "the needs of many outweigh the few"
+ Show Spoiler [madoka] +
in madoka the kyubey are literally using a few human girls for the benefit of the entire universe while being painted as antagonists

I don't see how that doesn't fit what you were looking for

hm?
Which shows do you mean?

Either way, I don't mind minor plotholes, and asspulls even less in most cases, but what Psycho Pass had was just absolutely retarded, and when it gets to those levels then it's not watchable.

+ Show Spoiler +
Main thing being how the whole psycho pass organisation was supposed to be powerful enough to control the world and change it in the way that the whole show operates, though once shit went down, they're suddenly a ~20 person organization with not enough resources to even arm those people properly. And then there's the thing that suddenly once given a chance to be a violent asshole, every person in the city instantly took that chance.
With the way the world was presented, both of these things are just completely against all of the worldbuilding that had been done up to that point.
I don't believe you.

See it's funny, because the way you're describing pycho pass is exactly how i'd describe code geass. And i believe miragee feels similarly.

An absolutely garbage show with major plotholes and asspulls.
