Even if they weren't accepted by human society surely there would've been tons of scientists dying to know more about them, they can't be that uncommon if the MC suddenly met four of them in one day (which also find pretty BS, he's never met a single one in his life and suddenly when he wants to know more about them they start falling from the sky). There's the possibility that the school he's visiting is one of the few that accepts demi's but shouldn't the MC be aware of that since he's writing his thesis about them ? And if they've been living in persecution for so long why did humanity suddenly accepted them in their society ? Why are the demi's so carefree? None of them feel like they've been persecuted or have relatives that have been persecuted.
Also minor nitpick but why are all the demi's cute girls ? It's like the show can't decide if it wants to be a semi-realistic documentary or a moeblob show.
Maybe the anime will address all of the above at some point but I feel like some of my points should've already been explained from the get-go since I think they're pretty crucial. If the anime's just an allegory about disabled humans and their struggles during their day-to-day life I'd rather have the anime be about actual disabled humans since I can't buy into its premise. the last thing you mentioned in the spoiler was my only gripe with it as well. There are some boys later on but they pretty much don't have any lines. I would have liked a big or small brother for one of the others seeing how nice vamp sis is. The first thing was pretty addressed I think? + Show Spoiler +I took most of the things that are not dullahan as things you don't recognize on sight. He saw succy and didn't realize that she was one until she said so herself. And dullahan was mentioned to be a total of 3 on the globe atm. We do know that succubi at least have to be somewhat more frequent but that's going into spoiler territory On phone and autocorrect wants to murder me~ + Show Spoiler [Demi-chan] +Fair point but still nearly all demi's being able to hide their heritage from birth for hundreds of years doesn't really feel plausible. If the excuse is that most of them are that rare and the ones who aren't can hide their demi traits well then i guess you'd just have to suspend your disbelief at the MC finding 4 of them in one day. + Show Spoiler +They said at the start of episode 1 that it was less something you inherited and more just random mutations. Doesn't make much sense but whatever. So there is little to no monster girl lineage in this series, it's mostly just random mutations rather than something they got from their parents.
|
It doesn't make sense for there to suddenly be 4 demi in the school no. But that's something you're supposed to swallow
|
I mean it's not that it doesn't make sense. It's that it's unlikely. Possible within the world the series presents? Sure. Likely? No.
So it's just plot convenience.
|
I think the series just has Demis because they are cuter than underprivileged people and thus more marketable. Though not sure if you are suppose to think too hard about where they come from.

Well, random chance being what it is, it could happen. There could also be other factors that aren't mentioned explicitly... "Due to the presence of special needs students, they should be concentrated with a special needs teacher in one school to more efficiently address their special needs."
Also... + Show Spoiler +With the genetic mutation angle, there could be plausible reasons for the relative scarcity of male demis. Linked genetically to X gene, perhaps, which provides much higher possibility of mutation in females. A survival strategy as a female is more likely to pass on the mutating demi genes.
Also, seriously. Does the show need that kind of depth of background, world building, and spelling out everything within the first episode or else it isn't worth it?

succubus and snow woman sure as hell don't sound like something that would be possible for males in the first place so yeah, like I already said: the only real chance to change that would have been to change Vamp (I'll cut anyone who tries to change her) and Dullahan

According to this argument, a male snow woman would also be possible. That's snow man then, isn't it?

I'm not even sure if that was supposed to be a joke or not

So is Demi-chan worth a look? I've moved into new place so can start catching up.

It was a joke, admittedly a bad one. I didn't know that "yuki-onna" is specifically a female monster in japanese lore btw. so thanks for the heads-up Unleashing.

It's pretty much between Demi-chan, KonoSuba2 and Dragon Maid being AOTS for most people so far I'd assume? As far as I know you're not into KonoSuba so if you're not at least giving Demi-chan and Dragon Maid a chance you're probably not going to watch anything else from this season.
Oh and Little Witch Academia I guess but I don't even know if that's out yet
also watch Hand Shakers:
Alright, you. Yes, you. Drop what you're doing immediately and turn on the first episode of Hand Shakers. You don't have to watch the whole thing (although I dare you to look away), but I feel very strongly that as many anime fans as possible need to experience The Most Hilariously Hideous Anime that I have seen in my entire life. You don't understand. Even the most poorly animated shows, from Bloodivores to World Break, don't have the power to make a visceral "UGH" impression in their first three seconds of screentime. It shouldn't really be possible for anime, because of its low framerate, to start showing signs of horrible decision-making in the time it takes you to blink twice in disbelief. But this, for your viewing pleasure, is the first ten seconds of Hand Shakers. ![[image loading]](http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/images/cms/preview-guide/110832/icanteven.gif)
that sounds amazing, doesn't it?

LWA is out but i haven't watched it yet, if it's as good as the movies/OVAs produced before it, it'll likely be my AOTS.

Not necessarily considering the type of show demi-chan aims to be, I just think the worldbuilding could've been handled better.
In the first episode we didn't even need the exposition about the demi's history and how they've started being accepted recently. All the watchers really needed to know was that the professor wanted to write a thesis about them and that he'd never met them until he visited the school, the rest could've been revealed more in-depth through exposition/dialogue/imagery later on in the show.
The little worldbuilding we got the first episode just raised a ton of questions about the past and distracted the viewers (well me at least) from the present which is what the show is about.

AotS is 3-gatsu though so that point is moot. LWA and dragon maid were only ones I was going to watch this season. I'll throw in demi as well I guess.

urara meirochou was so boring, it was just dumb moe girls and a bit of mediocre fanservice
