Or worse if that particular episode just tanked really hard. Remember Monogatari s2 the medusa arc epilogue? + Show Spoiler + It was fairly obvious that that's just Nadeko's idea about how things should go down and not how things actually will go down but the week I had to wait killed me. In a good way Don't think I would have enjoyed that moment as much at all had I marathoned it

Just to give an example, I asked last year about Fate and where to start and eventually I started with Fate/Zero, finished the first half of the season (since 2 cour), rated it 8/10 and really liked it but never ended up watching the rest. I'm fairly sure I would have watched all of it had I been told to watch it while it aired. But now that it's already finished airing... meh And that is despite me actually liking it. Something's missing for me that way. Maybe I'll try that 1 episode per week thing like Sent just mentioned after all.

Also, fucking hilarious that Hishoko drew the short straw and ended up with the Steves. Love that Erina is still recoiling from her discovery, that was about as good as I could have hoped for. Also I'm with Soma, I want to see who's in central now, like any familiar faces.

Shows that I can endure if I only have to watch an episode a week.

Mystery, detective anime are great to watch live (1 episode per week). Gives you so much time to go on forum, discuss, etc etc. Rokka wasn't necessarily the best anime from the past seasons. But watching it 1 episode at a time left a lot of time to speculate, which was really fun and contributed to that anime experience. Old anime, unfortunately (unless you join a rewatch group, like on reddit), most people watched them already so there isn't really a place where you can discuss the story as it unfolds. This season, following the same formula, I am enjoying Erased alot! I am not sure if you are supposed to identify the culprit, but it doesn't stop me from trying! Back on topic... It feels like some anime wouldn't survive a marathon (as you would realize quickly how poor the narration is)

I guess Communist would make for a better translation in this instance, but the terms at the time are pretty interchangable. And considering the anime is set within the Cold War, its true. The Capitalist West and the Communist East didn't get along. Altho GRZ ain't so bad and full of plot holes that makes zero sense, it was still terribly mediocre at best. What I can't comprehend is all the '9/10' and '10/10', 'best anime evah' reviews/opinions. ~~ I liked Ga Rei Zero quite a bit. No idea how it is like Mirai Nikki in the least. They're totally different, but share lots of similarities: highly overrated, shallow characters without any real development, poor writing/pacing, plot holes (in Mirai Nikki they were bigger than whatever iceberg hit Titanic) and both have tons of superpositive reviews at places like MAL. I know, I'm grumpy ![]() Its kind of hard to discuss it when your reasons for not liking it are just "overrated" and "I thought it was shit". Ofc people who liked it don't agree with those "reasons", not to mention that two of them aren't even reasons and are irrelevant. Of course we can discuss it in the details. As for Ga-Rei: Zero: + Show Spoiler + there wasn't really any real character development. Kagura basically for whole series was only saying "Yomi/sorry" or crying, Yomi didn't really seem that interesting, rest of characters are forgettable. Plot. So we have the specters. Nothing much explained, but ok. So we have like two ministries fighting evil and let's just say, they have like no real methodology, tactics, strategy, nothing. Which you can clearly see in few episodes where they just charge randomly during battle. But that's isn't that important. Their 'spiritual team' sense some weirdness that appeared twice, none bothers to check it out, director is busy with doing nothing. Ugh. Also, that fight of her vs Yomi almost made me burst in laughs. :D Story progression: well, you could say what's going to happen waaaay before it actually happened. You knew Kagura won't die in first two episodes (if I remember correctly, they even changed the 'slice' animation from 'first' part of the show and the latter one). You could tell from miles away how Kagura and Yomi became close and that Yomi will die in final epic clash with Kagura. That wouldn't be bad if the story was actually told in interesting manner, which wasn't the case. There was problem with pacing as well, but I guess we can blame that on the fact G-R: Z had only 12 episodes. Also about that "epic final fight". When Kagura's mother died, her father went through a not-so-short ritual to bind the beast and his soul together. Ok. He dies then and... Kagura inherits the beast without any actual rituals, sealings, nothing. A beast that was clearly trying to escape and was supposedly really powerful. So...yeah. Makes sense. Characters acting without logic, no actual strategy or thought in actions of a ministry (like, not even having anybody watching their 'watcher teams'. Know that wouldn't change the fact Yomi could kill'em without a problem, but still. And the main antagonist, simply boring. Another 'evil kid who will never fight but laugh and watch the outcome of whatever'. Boooooring. Maybe manga explains this more, but I'm rating anime only. As as a whole, it's utterly mediocre. As for Mirai Nikki, oh man, don't even get me started on this one :D Here. A bit of chaotic long post, hope you don't mind. + Show Spoiler + Character Development: I could get that one could not like the character development in the anime, but saying that there simply wasn't any is just false. Is a 'character' different from the beginning of the series compared to the end? No matter what way you look at it, the answer is yes. Kagura did go through many major changes in terms of her outlook and how she thought, over the course of the show. The same can be said for characters such as Yomi and Noriyuki. So rather than not having any character development, its just that they didn't have character development that you liked. Which is fine, since that simply comes down to personal preference. You obviously didn't like how they developed the characters, while others did. Plot: I'm... Honestly not sure what you are even talking about with a lot of this stuff. The job for exterminators is to go in and kill the target. I'm not sure if you were expecting Tom Clancy out of this or not. For predictability, its not like anime in unpredictably by nature, and when it does try to be unpredictable, it turns out as shit. But Ga Rei Zero did have a bit of unpredictability to it, especially considering its first episode. All of the preview material for the anime exclusively advertised the cast we saw in the first episode. And then the whole cast was killed to a man. And then the second episode seemingly repeated it. IMO the only way you could see through that is if you had prior experience with the manga, to know how it would turn out. As for Byakuei getting passed to Kagura easily, reading between the lines can explain it pretty easily. Kagura has been being trained and prepared for getting Byakuei for her whole life. Kagura's father wasn't "meant" to have gotten Byakuei, given that he married into the family, was forced to take it due to Kagura being too young at the time to inherit it, not to mention age probably factored in (as it was remarked that everyone who takes Byakuei dies young.), which could all culminate into it being a trail to merge an unrelated/unprepared soul with the beast, compared to a young person who was groomed for it. Finally, there is Byakuei himself, maybe hes just into young girls. Ofc, this is all reading between the lines, so if you only accept things that get spelt out for you as fact, well... To each his own, I suppose. I don't get what you are referring to with characters acting without logic. I'm not sure why you assume that they had no one protecting the Watcher Teams (unless we are going back wanting everything to be explicit). The main antagonist was boring, I'll agree about that. He's there just because he is in the manga, but he was hardly the antagonist that got focused on anyway, so w/e. What liking/disliking Ga Rei Zero comes down to is how well much you like the Kagura/Yomi relationship, and if the tragedy involved gave you any FEEEELLLS or not. Its pretty clear that you didn't care for it, but surely you can see how other people might, right? Mirai Nikki is shit, but its not even comparable to Ga Rei Zero IMO. Its about a Yandere stalker girl and keikakus keikakuing kaikakus. Ga Rei Zero is about fighting ghosts and crying. Pretty much can agree, maybe I should state "in my humble opinion" before every post. I really saw better character relations, in Ga-Rei: Zero it didn't seem too interesting/captivating, partially because of pacing problem I mentioned. Oh well, still 5/10 which is perfectly average. And maybe my personal seal of 'overrated' ;] And again, only reason I was kinda (but not really) putting Ga-Rei: Zero and Mirai Nikki next to each other was how both were heavily overrated in my opinion. Others like it? Cool, they have bad taste + Show Spoiler + in my opinion. And I know they can say the same about mine and it's okay ;]
