Some good points that you guys made. Will address when I wake up. In the meantime: + Show Spoiler +I just remembered that Tomiko actually confirmed that the bones that they got were that of Maria and Mamoru. When I was watching that, I thought she was using it to cover for Saki and that she knew the truth even though she told Saki that she has three days before the board of education does everything in their power to retrieve them. Thinking back on it, she even said that they checked their DNA and did all kinds of tests so she pretty much confirmed that both Maria and Mamoru are dead. Damn, that just made me sadder for some reason Wiki seems to confirm it, dunno their source: Maria: It is revealed that she was pregnant with Mamoru's child and was held by the Robber Fly colony before she was murdered upon her child's birth. Mamoru: After the second time skip, with Tomiko confirming it, Mamoru was killed by the Robber Fly Monster Rats and had a child with Maria that Squealer raised to be the Monster Rats' "Messiah".

How can people not absolutely love shoujo ai/yuri? There is nothing more beautiful than pure, sweet, girl love between two or more girls.

I really wish we got more information on Maria and Mamarou though. It's likely they got killed and their child was taken from them, but, I want to know how? Was it some ambush? We also never got some information about the false minoshiro and how Squealer managed to catch it! All important information that the anime didn't mention.
However, what I will say is this, I KNEW IT! lol. I had a feeling that the queerats were related to humans even since the foreign invaders from episode 4 were said to look similar to humans. It was interesting to hear that they oppressed the hunters and commoners that couldn't use PK by changing their genes so that they can still continue running their own society with attack inhibition and death feedback while making sure they have control over the other humans.
Pretty sad though. Despite being sad about Squealer handled the whole situation, I honestly can't blame him for it. It's like Kimimaru said, we have to consider the survival of the colony especially when you consider that current society can easily have a change in heart and wipe out a whole colony in the blink of an eye. Squealer was pretty much a genius when it came to organizing this war. Traps, surrounds, confusion, fear, even using a cantus user that has no death feedback to humans. It was also great to see Shun guide Saki and that they remember him. I'll probably write more in a blog to sum up all my posts and more later on but a bit for now. + Show Spoiler +I'm still not sure how people can wonder what happened to maria and mamarou. You saw their bones. They DNA tested the bones and it matched maria and mamoru iirc. what do you think happened? They're dead. The queer rats took care of them and then killed them after maria gave birth, it was fairly obvious imoimo when you consider that both maria and mamoru thought they could trust queer rats..

i like yaoi , ive barely ever seen any yuri tho. fwiw lesbian porn makes me ill. on the other hand i have never seen gay porn in my entire life.

I like both yaoi and yuri, but yuri is much better to me

+ Show Spoiler + I don't think too many people doubt they are dead. I think the big question is what the events were like that involved in their demise. What you suggested is likely the result but I think a lot of us wish they elaborated more on the two.

Yuru Yuri however isn't that. It uses lesbian love and makes fun of it which is pretty annoying. I didn't like s1 at all and won't watch another one.

+ Show Spoiler +It was partly what BigFan said, I thought that Tomiko was covering for Saki. The other thing is: DNA tests aren't king. They just confirmed human bones. Could have been human bones from a grave or something. And we also don't know how advanced their techniques are. DNA tests are pretty tricky and has a lot to do with comparing/aligning against known sequences. Sequencing itself is very costly by todays standards so I didn't expect them to do that at all, esepcially for such a small incident. If they did, their techniques must be way and heads above everything we can imagine today... They didn't specify it (and they don't have to imho) but you shouldn't be so fast with saying that you don't know how people can wonder: Peoples thoughts are first and foremost lead by what they know and in this case it's information from the real world.

I think the source material gives a bit more detail on what happened with Maria and Mamarou but didn't explicitly give much from what I hear. The treatment of the Queerats is rather reprehensible. Squealer's revelation really transformed him and I can't really blame him for what he did. The guy really was clever and reminded me of Hitler in some ways (though I don't think his vision of the world was quite as negative as Hitler's). In the end I think his arrogant and self-absorbed nature ultimately led to his failure in Tokyo. If he had taken more precautions he would have likely never lost in the end. I thought the town's punishment of him was way overboard, the guy did an awful thing but their punishment is also awful. Glad he was freed eventually. It seems like it took some time for Saki to truly forgive him even though she understood his plight. Many of the townspeople never forgave him; never even tried to understand his position. I feel like the town is a great example of the possible dangers of living in ignorance.
+ Show Spoiler +The way they treated the queerats and Squealer's punishment make a lot of sense in the context of them not considered to be human. I mean they begin laughing uncontrollably in the trial when Squealer tries to reveal the truth. Considering that they had been threating the queerats like trash for centuries it would require a big political effort to change the culture to view them as anything near of equal beings.

+ Show Spoiler +What? Firstly, changing the human biology by changing the DNA is completely different from making a DNA test and the most important parameter here is "time". They never told us how long it took them to create self-defense-barriers etc. But they had only so much time (because of the timeline in the series) to identify the bones they found. Only because humanity is able to change DNA like they want doesn't mean they can fully sequence an organism within a few days/weeks. Secondly, I didn't say the show way intentionally trying to trick me. I was just saying that it wasn't made clear when considering our backround knowledge.

They do use electricity, even when not in standby. It's not a lot but they do. Same with turned-off pc's. The PSU will still draw some electricity if not detached from electricity supply entirely.

+ Show Spoiler + I think the fact they consider Squealer sub-human makes the punishment all the more inappropriate. If something is considered below human, putting a concerted effort in torturing and sustaining it suggests it has power over you. Most of the townspeople obviously learned nothing from the events which is quite sad but understandable. The ignorant will not care for the truth even if it lies right before them. Instead of trying to understand what Squealer did they just had the idea "what he did is unforgivable so let's give him a punishment that's unforgettable." Their punishment was so extreme I can't imagine anyone making a strong case to justify endless torment of a creature regardless of their misdeeds.

They do use electricity, even when not in standby. It's not a lot but they do. Same with turned-off pc's. The PSU will still draw some electricity if not detached from electricity supply entirely.
im trying to google for some stat but nothing really comes up. like we are talking £15/yr for leaving something on standby , how does that compare to leaving something not on standby? £5/yr? £0.05/yr?
and thats just cost. what are the dangers of leaving a kettle switched on? it looks like the danger is only there if you have frayed/damaged wire which will set fire to something randomly at any point whilst left on
