We also never got some information about the false minoshiro and how Squealer managed to catch it! All important information that the anime didn't mention.
However, what I will say is this, I KNEW IT! lol. I had a feeling that the queerats were related to humans even since the foreign invaders from episode 4 were said to look similar to humans. It was interesting to hear that they oppressed the hunters and commoners that couldn't use PK by changing their genes so that they can still continue running their own society with attack inhibition and death feedback while making sure they have control over the other humans.
Pretty sad though. Despite being sad about Squealer handled the whole situation, I honestly can't blame him for it. It's like Kimimaru said, we have to consider the survival of the colony especially when you consider that current society can easily have a change in heart and wipe out a whole colony in the blink of an eye. Squealer was pretty much a genius when it came to organizing this war. Traps, surrounds, confusion, fear, even using a cantus user that has no death feedback to humans. It was also great to see Shun guide Saki and that they remember him. I'll probably write more in a blog to sum up all my posts and more later on but a bit for now. + Show Spoiler +I'm still not sure how people can wonder what happened to maria and mamarou. You saw their bones. They DNA tested the bones and it matched maria and mamoru iirc. what do you think happened? They're dead. The queer rats took care of them and then killed them after maria gave birth, it was fairly obvious imoimo when you consider that both maria and mamoru thought they could trust queer rats.. + Show Spoiler +It was partly what BigFan said, I thought that Tomiko was covering for Saki. The other thing is: DNA tests aren't king. They just confirmed human bones. Could have been human bones from a grave or something. And we also don't know how advanced their techniques are. DNA tests are pretty tricky and has a lot to do with comparing/aligning against known sequences. Sequencing itself is very costly by todays standards so I didn't expect them to do that at all, esepcially for such a small incident. If they did, their techniques must be way and heads above everything we can imagine today... They didn't specify it (and they don't have to imho) but you shouldn't be so fast with saying that you don't know how people can wonder: Peoples thoughts are first and foremost lead by what they know and in this case it's information from the real world. + Show Spoiler +You know that they have technology advanced enough to splice and mix DNA to the point where they could change human biology entirely but you have doubts if they can DNA test properly? The series clearly showed us technology far more advanced than our own. The show gave you the answer, but if you intentionally tried to believe that the show was trying to trick you i don't know what to say. + Show Spoiler +What? Firstly, changing the human biology by changing the DNA is completely different from making a DNA test and the most important parameter here is "time". They never told us how long it took them to create self-defense-barriers etc. But they had only so much time (because of the timeline in the series) to identify the bones they found. Only because humanity is able to change DNA like they want doesn't mean they can fully sequence an organism within a few days/weeks. Secondly, I didn't say the show way intentionally trying to trick me. I was just saying that it wasn't made clear when considering our backround knowledge. I think the source material gives a bit more detail on what happened with Maria and Mamarou but didn't explicitly give much from what I hear. The treatment of the Queerats is rather reprehensible. Squealer's revelation really transformed him and I can't really blame him for what he did. The guy really was clever and reminded me of Hitler in some ways (though I don't think his vision of the world was quite as negative as Hitler's). In the end I think his arrogant and self-absorbed nature ultimately led to his failure in Tokyo. If he had taken more precautions he would have likely never lost in the end. I thought the town's punishment of him was way overboard, the guy did an awful thing but their punishment is also awful. Glad he was freed eventually. It seems like it took some time for Saki to truly forgive him even though she understood his plight. Many of the townspeople never forgave him; never even tried to understand his position. I feel like the town is a great example of the possible dangers of living in ignorance. + Show Spoiler +The way they treated the queerats and Squealer's punishment make a lot of sense in the context of them not considered to be human. I mean they begin laughing uncontrollably in the trial when Squealer tries to reveal the truth. Considering that they had been threating the queerats like trash for centuries it would require a big political effort to change the culture to view them as anything near of equal beings. + Show Spoiler + I think the fact they consider Squealer sub-human makes the punishment all the more inappropriate. If something is considered below human, putting a concerted effort in torturing and sustaining it suggests it has power over you. Most of the townspeople obviously learned nothing from the events which is quite sad but understandable. The ignorant will not care for the truth even if it lies right before them. Instead of trying to understand what Squealer did they just had the idea "what he did is unforgivable so let's give him a punishment that's unforgettable." Their punishment was so extreme I can't imagine anyone making a strong case to justify endless torment of a creature regardless of their misdeeds. + Show Spoiler +In some ways he has more than a human to them. Their society had been living in peace for more than 200 hundred years, so the queerats rebelling and a fiend showing up at the same time is like a horror story come true. Squealer was "respected" for the fear he bought upon them rather than his intelligence/humanity. He was a horror somewhat beyond their imagination so them respoding with a punishment beyond reason doesn't seem too far fetched. I'm not saying that I approve of his punishment, but I can certainly see how parts of their society would push for it.

+ Show Spoiler +As said, at that point it wasn't clear if Squealer was on their side or not so it was perfectly possible for the bones to be of someone else who was rather identical in appearance. I'm not saying that this was the only theory one could have at that point but which theory was correct wasn't confirmed at that point. It was only later when Squealer was revealed to lead the revolt with the fiend that one could assume to 99,9% that the bones were truly Maria's and Mamoru's. Their technology might be far ahead of ours but let me say this: Our current technology is not far away from significant genetic modification. In fact we can already go very far with plants, bacteria etc. creating new pathways and essentially change how a certain organism works in its wild-type. The only reason why this isn't as advanced with humans/animals is because of ethics. However, while we are already not that far away in this regard, we are miles away from sequencing a whole organism within weeks, let alone indentifying single persons by these means. And I also don't see how this can be changed significantly. In the end it's pretty easy to imagine to refine methods of modifying an organism but it's not easy to imagine methods that cut time restraint by a lot. I'm probably owing this "missinterpretation" to my backround but I don't think it's fair to dismiss it immediately. People should try and put yourself in somebody else's shoes more because most lack the ability or rather don't make use of it which leads to a lot of missunderstandings, drama and conflict. It's even one of the points brought up in SSY.

so whats everyone gonna watch for next season.

Already made a post about this. Cut Durarara!! because I decided to watch it once it is done airing.
On June 17 2015 22:48 Miragee wrote: Alright, made my list for summer now.
Try on day 1/decent expectations:
- Gangsta (PV's are looking cool as fuck) - Prison School (because people here hyped it up; according to the previews it might turn out to be an instant drop though) - Godeater (looks crisp) - JWWW (TLADT hype + first manga chapter seemed actually pretty decent to me) - Overlord (MMO, so interested how this will turn out to be) - Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace (could be another Another but could be good, too)
Have an eye on/may try later depending on what people are saying about it:
- Gakkou Gurashi (sounds lol) - Chaos Dragon (some fantasy) - Makura no Danshi (for the lulz) - Rokka no Yuusha (more fantasy) - Ushio to Tora - Durarara (depends on whether I will finish the previous seasons before. Currently 4 episodes into season one, watching slowly. Seems rather episodic (aka perfect show for watching weekly), can someone confirm?)
I'm also thinking about dropping Arslan, depending on how good summer will turn out to be. Arslan atm. is pretty forgettable to me, to the point where I often forget to watch an episode for multiple days in a row.
Jinrui episode 7 was genius in so many ways. dis show's too gud mang.

Ontop of us learning that something weird is up with squealer. + Show Spoiler +You're making the assumption that the DNA test happened recently prior to the reveal. However the DNA test happened far before Saki finds out about it, they had a LOT of time to conduct the test in any case. The only thing tomiko reveals is that they already ran the tests and confirmed that the bones did indeed belong to maria and mamoru. Even if we were ignore the DNA testing they also checked the bones to compare assumed age and gender which also match. Ontop of this the dental records were also perfect matches for maria and mamoru. There was a 12 year time skip from maria and mamoru escaping to the revelation of the bones returned were actually theirs and not fake. It didn't take 12 years for them to get the bones, this happened relatively shortly after their escape, iirc it was something like 3 years later, squealer himself even said that it would take some time to prepare the bones but that he'd definitely fake their deaths. The DNA test was conducted FAR before saki learns about it, infact it was conducted after the bones were turned in by squealer's colony obviously. They had PLENTY of time to run the tests even with our modern day technology it wouldn't take 5+ years to run the tests. Even less so when SSY takes place 1000 years in the future, their technology and understanding of DNA is highly likely far beyond ours. The DNA tests weren't just run because they began suspecting maria and mamoru helping out the robber flies, it was conducted when the bones were inititally found so that they could call off the search for them as finding them was a high priority prior to the bones being turned in. "We can be certain they were their bones. We examined the remains as thoroughly as possible. They were human bones. There were no inconsistencies in age or gender. The DNA matched as well. The dental records that were kept at harmony school put it beyond reasonable doubt. It is absolutely certain that akizuki maria and itou mamoru are dead."

Damn you guys plan on watching a lot of Anime. Summer doesn't look as interesting as this season but perhaps the shows will end up better than I expect. I hope to hear a lot of impressions this first week!

@Unleashing: + Show Spoiler +The 12 year time skip was before they told Saki? I didn't notice that while I was watching, are you sure? Anyways, you realise that one person saying "It's absolutely certain" means nothing when said person has already been dishonest before, right?
@Imperfect: I honestly think summer looks a lot better than spring. The only show that came close to get a 7 rating from me this season was Kekkai Sensen but the final episode has to be complete awesomeness. Pretty mediocre if you ask me.
@goody: I doubt there will be romance in gangsta.

Oh there will be romance in gangsta! Some Black Lagoon-type romance, that is.

Pretty mediocre if you ask me. + Show Spoiler +Now you're assuming that tomiko will lie to protect Saki's feelings compared to telling the truth to protect everyone. I'm fairly sure that regardless of any preferential treatment she might give saki, protecting saki's feelings doesn't trump protecting the safety of EVERYONE when they assumed one of the two escapees might've had the potential to become a fiend. It simply makes no sense for her to lie in this case. They called off the search for maria and mamoru because they could confirmed that they were dead, if they couldn't confirm that then they'd still be searching for maria and mamoru because they would pose a huge potential risk.
And yes, squealer told them he'd fake the bones before the 12 year time skip, the faked bones were turned inbetween that timeskip, but not 12 entire years later. Sometime after maria gave birth, obviously, which is why most people assume it to be 3 years later since the messsiah is approximately 10 years old when it attacks.

NTR aka rape? Could be something for goody then. (haven't watched Black Lagoon btw.)
@Unleashing: + Show Spoiler +I don't think we get any further with this. We have very different understandings of the word "confirmed" and that is ok. I personally don't think something is confirmed because someone tells me it is. I think something is confirmed if someone shows me that it is (results or whatever). That's just my ways of thinking and is hammered into my brain. In this regard, I even think it wasn't even confirmed in the end of the show: One could just assume it with a high probability since it wasn't shown. However, I can totally understand how other people like you see it as confirmed, even early on, and think that the show intended to make the viewer think it's confirmed (which btw. is certainly possible and likely). I'm not trying to dismiss that. I'm just trying to explain that other people with a different understanding of the word "confirmed" might have come up with other theories that might be wrong in the end. But coming up with these theories in general is not wrong from a logical stand point.
There are other shows where the same thing can be said. I came up with a lot of theories that either turned out right or wrong later on. But I don't think it was wrong to have come up with theories that turned out to be wrong.
