you're being oversensitive, well Anime is a little more sadder than the Visual novel.

i played through the visual novel just for the kyou arc
23x better than the anime version

If you're watching After Story, make sure you have some tissues handy.
Actually re-watching the entire Clannad series atm, and if anything it hits me even harder than before.
I'm such a baby, I get emotional over almost anything.

I think it's just the fact that there's a noticeable difference in tone between Clannad and Clannad: After Story.
And while I may have overexaggerated, I encourage you to watch After Story. I thought it was really good, even though there are points where it just gets slow.
I'll be honest, at first, when watching these slice of life shows, I wanted to quit. But after watching most of the slice of life shows by Kyoto, I'm assuming that these are probably the shows that I watch the most.
And then Shauni showed me a couple of new ones and now I'm all crazy over whatever those genre of Animes are. Fantasy, sci-fi, mecha?

Clannad is that good? I need to watch/play this.

It should have ended with that epic ballad. And yeah, it seems that it's getting harder for Keima. Poor guy I have a feeling that ep 8 will elaborate on that maybe, or at least be about him and Elsie, and the next girl won't come in until ep 9.
I guess they will release all of Kanon's songs sooner or later. The question is if they are greedy and split them up or if they make a medium sized album instead of 3 character singles for Kanon or something.
But I liked that they opened the concert with the ballad, it sounded like an apology first, until everyone realized that this is a very special song for Kanon (and Keima - who lied, he was in the audience!).

Yes, I heard that After Story is very tragic compared to the "happy end" (at least for 2 people) in Clannad. That was the main point of my hesitation, I'm happy with the story so far. I avoided any spoilers yet, so I don't know more.

23x better than the anime version I'm really interested in Kyou and Tomoyo. The Tomoyo bonus episode was just too short.
Thanks for your comments so far, I guess I should go and play the VN.
Edit: Concerning slice-of-life: I used to watch a lot of fighting shows, Bleach and such. I never thought that I could enjoy shows about "normal life", but I'm starting to drift more and more towards everything connected to that. Supernatural things are great though (like in Kanon, or the story of Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto).

I don't know about the visual novel, but the anime is definitely one of the best, if not THE best I've ever watched.
|
Nagisa route without afterstory is totally overrated in terms of the VN itself, I liked Tomoyo, Kyou, and Kotomi route so much more. Though in general for me it is closer to like, Kotomi voiced by Noto Mamiko, therefore automatically <3
Also Tomoyo After was good stuff.

A little bit overrated, but yeah. Clannad is really good.
Though it's up to you to decide if you like the storytelling style. To be honest, the Anime goes in character arcs, and some of the characters are either flat out boring or flat out annoying.
If you're not a fan of super fan service, than Clannad is also not for you, because there is tons of that. xD

I highly recommend the Visual Novel but it's definitely something you finish over 1 week, 2 weeks with sleep.

It's okay, I watched High School of the Dead, and earlier today I watched Koe de Oshigoto while laughing the whole time.
Edit: Torrenting Clannad right now

Yeah, Clannad is nothing compared to that, or even To Love Ru. You have a few scenes that are fanservicey, but no nudity (unless I forgot that? oO). Probably the strongest scene would be the one with Kyou.
But yes, I agree with everyone else, you should watch it. (And you can really see that it's made by KyoAni.)

I actually kinda liked it >.<

and yosuga no sora is hentai aired on tv

Clannad's main strength is in its main story arc. It's very, very good. I'm not a huge fan of most of the sub-arcs. I thought they were a bit too cheesy and required too much disbelief suspension. But still...some of them were amazing as well. All in all, if you ever find watching either series tedious, just ride it out and get to the end. It won't disappoint.

BTW - Can anyone recommend older anime series to watch? I'm getting bored and more and more disappointed in recent series. I started watching anime only a few years ago, so don't know much about anything that came out before 2007ish - only the particularly standout ones that everyone knows about.
Any outstanding recommendations from before 2006ish would be greatly appreciated. (:

Shauni posted a few a few pages back. You should also watch shows like Yu Yu Hakusho or Trigun or Cowboy Bebop. Those are some pretty cool, older shows.
Edit: And Gundam!
|
They have Gundam 00 now. I watched a few episode, is it a remake of the original ?

Slam Dunk : shonen manga/anime, funny as hell, kinda gets serious and repetitive near the end
School Rumble : shonen manga/anime, as funny as Slam Dunk, but the ending sux and the anime skipped alot of the main story so you need to read the manga if you want to know the full story.
Full Metal Panic : seinen manga/anime/light novel, its half-funny, half-romance. Suggest you watch the anime seeing as the manga and light novel versions are no where to be found.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When the cicadas cry) : shonen/seinen manga/anime/visual novel/novel/light novel, horror, mystery, psychological thriller. It can be really confusing and hard to understand, so i suggest you read/watch/play Umineko no Naku Koro ni (When the seagulls cry) if you haven't.
Not sure if this counts as a standout but just in case:
School Days : seinen manga/anime/visual novel, Harem, drama. I got nothing to say, just watch it.
