I made it in two parts to explain basic background a bit in a spoiler and the actual thing in another spoiler so that he can pick what he's fine with knowing and what he doesn't want to be spoilered about as it might still come up later in the anime. Also some funny sidestories added like honoka in vol5, the fact that she knows but the anime viewers don't when last episode was the beginning of vol6 LOL Or the butler | ||

I started reading it like 2 weeks ago on a boring saturday and was quite suprised to see it explained there really early, but maybe I just forgot about that part in the anime I'll put the answer in spoiler for you though i'm not sure if you're looking for someone who has read the novels already + Show Spoiler + When Tatsuya was born, he was born as a BS-Magician (Born-specialized magician) which means that only certain spells occupy your Magic calculation area(MCA). A BS-Magician is far superior in this particular area than a normal magician (like miyuki) and can use that particular affinity of spells in many interesting ways. However, because he comes from the strongest 10 master clan, the Yotsuba, his condition was not accepted. He was stripped from being the heir of the clan and became a guardian. His mother's unique spell is the ability to basically modify your brain and MCA. She tried to give him an artificial MCA which would allow him to cast magic like a normal magician. As you already know, the experiment was a complete failure because his artificial MCA can't do anything competently except basically give him godlike memory(though he already had strong memorization before that like Miyuki). The artificial MCA allows him to use flash cast basically. Because Miya's spell alters the limbic system, Tatsuya lost all of his strong desires/Emotions except for his familial bond for his sister. Some sort of the same thing has also happened to his aunt as well. You could say the only reason Tatsuya clings onto any sort of humanity is because of Miyuki because he doesn't know much else i would say? No sense of self love. No sense of why others like him. The need to constantly put a facade on himself. No one in his family really treats him with any respect(even miyuki didn't until a certain incident 3 years ago in the story). He doesn't qualify under the definition of magician that the 10 Master Clans uses: Ability to alter the eidos. Tatsuya only rebuilds or destroys eidos.. There's a lot more to his condition that i think will be revealed in upcoming novels. And you didn't miss it in the anime. They didn't put it in yet. These things aren't supposed to be surprises but idk why madhouse thinks they are. | ||

Can't believe they killed Sheele  I wasn't a fan of her to start but she grew on me. I guess it was kinda obvious that one of Night Raid will have to die at least but I was hoping that it wouldn't happen anytime soon. Mine also marked the killer so she's probably either die taking her down or die and pass it on to Tatsumi. Speaking of shoujo, started reading shigatsu wa kimi no uso in anticipation of the anime. Pretty interesting even though half the chapters aren't translated :C. Though now maybe im confused because one site had it as shoujo and another as shounen. I'd probably just put it down as slice of life and call it a day. | ||
