no not baccano or durarara .. both are not easily digestible anime some are even dropped the show just because it's non-chronological.. they are great but given he hated mainstream stuff ..

Try rec'ing him easily enjoyable stuff like Gundam Seed(robots and lazers are awesome .. i haven't heard of a male anime viewer that didn't like gundam seed), Code Geass, Slam Dunk or other sports shounen. Sports shounen are generally fun.

Well, he said brainless characters, not brainless shows. Panty/kore both are mindless fun, but the characters aren't complete idiots (at least not in the obvious way).

Finished Toradora...I really enjoyed it. I hate when ppl use the term "emotional roller coaster" b/c I've heard it misused a lot, but this show definitely had that feel for me. up and down and up and down...like every time a sad episode or piece of the story completed, the next is happy and funny. The comedy in this was alright, not super good but still well done, and well placed...I found myself tearing up from something and then bursting out laughing a number of times throughout the show.

Well, It's not that I'm a fan of Sansa, in fact she's like my least favorite character in the whole series BUT in recognizing the development of my least favorite character, it gives me an even stronger appreciation for the series as a whole, and the ingenious mind that created it.
