Berserk anime covers the part of the Manga, where Guts and Griffith both meet, and are in the Band of the Hawk together. Spoilers for those who haven't watched/read the manga: + Show Spoiler +It ends at Eclipse, where Griffith turns into a demon. Basically, the anime ends at the part where everyone dies, Griffith is raping Caska, while Guts is trying to hack his own arm off in order to save her. The End. The ending of this anime scarred me for life, and forced me to start reading some of the manga lol
In general, the anime isn't AS bloody and such as the manga. I still enjoyed the anime, for the most part.

But it seems to be pretty slow at the beginning....does it pick up later?

Lol i have a friend whos trying to watch Clannad and hes literally forcing himself so hard just because he wants to know why everyone thinks its good. Right now hes on like episode 9 and keeps bitching to me about how retarded it is + Show Spoiler +.
I myself dropped it at episode 1. Oh well =\

In my experience I watched the first season and I was like "Why the hell do all people say this is a good show?"
Then I watched season 2. It was the second best thing I've ever watched (after Kanon).

It's not that I didn't like Clannad. It's just that I felt like it was just a little slow. The comedy was funny, and there were a lot of parts that I really liked.
I was merely wondering if I was watching the same thing that others were talking about, since it seemed slow, when all the comments were like: "IT WAS SOOOOO SAD."

I feel your friend's pain. I've been attempting for force myself to watch Clannad for a very long time now, and I'm only like 10 episodes lol
