Yeah it became incredibly annoying.
I read the HoTD manga it still had the annoying fanservice but it was bearable. While the anime just well overdid it to unwatchable level at least that's what happened for me.

But seriously, I don't understand him. Is he saying that if he keeps being her friend, one day she might get into another accident that has the strangest possible effect on her mind? It always struck me as odd that Shogo would just do whatever Hasu wanted but then maybe that's how friends work in this anime  hmm I'm trying to figure it out myself tbh. For me, I think his behaviour is due to two things. First, after hearing Kujo's story, he doesn't want to keep thinking they are special friends like Kujo thought since he doesn't want to get hurt. This part is a bit less clear since he flinches when she said he's her special friends on the roof (my guess is that he doesn't believe that due to how things are). Second, I think he's worried that one day, he'll do something to hurt her. As I recall, he never specified what it was though. He thinks that he might end up hurting her unintentionally like Kujo did but the situations are just way too different so I don't see how that's possible. If anything, by being less friendly to her, he's hurting her already so he should just stop it lol. It was a bit painful to watch that last bit in the classroom when she was asking about winter break and he told her to move to the next classroom without giving her a chance to say anything! Well, he never did say that it'll have the strangest effect or anything like that, just hurt her in general kinda like how she became isolated from her friends because Kujo invited her to the park and such. + Show Spoiler +There are plenty of characters like Shogo in anime, the person who always seems annoyed but still hangs out anymore. Its like the tsundere friend character. I think you pegged Hase's reasoning pretty well but that doesn't mean he isn't a dumbass for the conclusion he likely as reached that explains his behavior.

I know as friends, you put up with certain things but still, it felt like he was getting pushed around way too much. Well, think of it from his perspective. Your 'special friend' is all in your head and you 'may hurt' that friend who is special to you. Best option? make more space and reduce conversation so that you aren't as close. Honestly, we can say he's a dumbass and I personally would've smacked him lol but it makes sense to me what he did. He actually thought things through. It's just so happens that she likes him a lot more than he realizes and somehow he doesn't seem to pick up on that. Rather unfortunate if you ask me

While I have enjoyed some of her slyness, no, I don't like her that much. I like Chiwa much more. I haven't gotten far enough to see the other girls yet, only episode 3 so far.
