Need is a funny word, and varies from person to person. As for Unicorn, here is the best info I can give you, so you can make that decision yourself. -Unicorn's story is set in UC0096, making it 3 years after Char's Counterattack, and 17 years after the original MSG. -Unicorn's story heavily builds off the events of Char's Counterattack. -There are various minor elements related to other earlier work like ZZ Gundam. -However, while it builds strongly off the themes and elements off from earlier Gundams, its not exactly a "sequel". Its a new story, with a new protagonist. -Sunrise does attempt to summarize need-to-know past stuff in the anime. -Many people have watched Unicorn as their first Gundam, which is extremely confusing to me, but whatever. Anyway, you have watched the first 3 movies. If you really do not want to watch Zeta Gundam and ZZ Gundam (which combine for like 100 episodes), then I'd strongly recommend you to at least watch the movie 'Char's Counterattack' first, since Unicorn does take place in CCA's aftermath. And CCA is watchable after having watched the original Trilogy, and in fact, most of the stuff in CCA is built off of the original trilogy. So there you go. But as an aside, Zeta Gundam is pretty good in its own right. | ||

I think what I might do in that case is rewatch the Gundam movies at some point and take a look at Char's Counterattack. I really do want to watch Zeta as well as Turn A so it's not like I'm never watching Zeta. >< | ||

I think Sent knows that. x) edit; unless he didn't like Zeta, which I don't recall him saying...pretty sure he and all the other mecha people say Zeta is one of the best Gundam series there is | ||
