On the topic of Gatchaman, I still don't know what the show wanted to be. A superhero show? Because it sure wasn't that. Commentary on internet trolls? Because that's a rather boring topic (which reeeally showed in the ending). The way the ending was presented was hugely lacking, and it really made it seem like they just beat around the bush for 10+ eps. In the end, the climax of the story basically wasn't one at all.
My main issue with Hajime was that awful verbal tic they gave her. It seemed completely unnecessary, and got really annoying after a whole season of it.

This show is actually pretty good. I'm surprised more people didn't like it (though I hear the ending had something to do with it so....that could be it too).
I loved the entire series, esp the soundtrack. Ending was a bit... anticlimactic i guess, but it wasnt bad. I think there was an announcement that they were making a movie for the series.
I think a 2nd season was announced. :3
AND YES THE OST OMG!!! XD
I think the eccentric main character can really be hit or miss, but I think she's overflowing with good character. ^^
OST, OP/ED were all really great for CROWDS. If there's a second season that'd be fantastic, I adored it for kawaii Utsutsu, and badass Jou. Rui was pretty great too. + Show Spoiler +
Gotta admit, the trap got me when I first watched it.
I'm surprised people were bothered by the ending. I thought it was fine.

did you see the tv ending or the proper one?
There were two different endings? Where do you find the proper one?
Yeah, but I think that's what's good about it. I just think it takes a pretty....iono if realistic is the right word for it, but it's approach is definitely refreshing for me at least. Not all superhero movie is about massive amounts of fighting. Batman Begins had...how many major fights? The Dark Knight? I don't think a superhero show should always be about dem fighting. :3

there were production delays or something, theres a bumch if scenes missing from the tv broadcast. (they announced it on the twitter page i think), on the bluray (and i assume the dvd) release the ending makes a little more sense.

While superhero shows can deal with deeper themes than just beating shit up, they are still superhero shows at their core. Could batman have defeated scarecrow without his training or his tools? All of the solutions in gatchaman required zero powers. The only real benefit they got from their powers was media attention, really.
Gatchaman had two main plot points: superheroes and the internet. The former they basically concluded as being nearly irrelevant in the modern world. The latter was rather odd in relation to the first, as their discussion boiled down to "ignore the trolls".
Iono, I think they needed Gatchaman to see the Crowds at the end, and the Crowds was a supernatural power.
And I think that's the point of the show: that anyone can be a hero, everyone has a purpose, and that crowdsourcing via the Internet, while having harmful side effects, is really powerful in overcoming obstacles and making social change. I think those two plotlines flowed well together. :3
Edit; So I skimmed through the Director's cut to see precisely what happened, since the most important part was not very dialogue intensive (and one could assume what had happened despite the weirdness of that ending).
Overall, I really liked Gatchaman. The OST was definitely a standout. I agree the MC can be very offputting, but iono I liked her character, and I think her perspective on life is one that's very refreshing for an MC of her type. I'm also very pleased with the fact that it's a show about superheroes, but there wasn't any long winded discussions about them, and most of that was shown/done through action as opposed to what people preach.
I think having a very non-preachy and to the point MC helped with that.
This video getting linked here amuses me almost more than the video itself, since its uploader is a friend of mine. Small world, I guess lol
On the subject of Gatchaman, the show was kind of weird, but it wasn't bad. I wish Hajime didn't talk so annoyingly, because if she didn't, she would have been almost perfect.
I think that's just the big divider for a lot of people who watched the show. I don't know who the hell gave the team the idea that a character with that kind of voice was going to do well, so I'm just going to assume they were all high/drunk.
I really liked Hajime though. She grew on me. I also wrote a review here. :3
