It has to just be the game, the anime only gave 1 OVA featuring a Tomoyo/Tomoya relationship and that one didn't play out like what he described.

Really enjoying the story telling in Log Horizon. Just a little more information to build interest, but still holding back so much and generating so many new questions, especially about the Apocalypse.
