Ben-to
Please. Stop. That anime was so bad. >.>

Hourou Musuko is my favorite slice of life/drama anime. I know there's a lot of dissenting opinions, especially since people think the manga was better, but I'm of the opinion that an anime (or any adaptation) can and should be able to stand on its own as separate from the source.
The show had its fair share of problems but they're more or less very irrelevant as to how beautifully the show touched on issues of transexuality and puberty with great amount of sensitivity and understanding. A friend of mine who has struggled with the same issues teared up at the first episode after + Show Spoiler +
Nitori goes into the boys bathroom and comes out dressed a girl
because of how close that was to his own life. I just think it's really good, and superior to all the anime you guys have been gushing about over the last few...iono weeks now?
Presentation (the watercolor-esque look the anime), sound, and characters (though Saori acted like she was 25 wtf lol still best girl) were all great. It's an insta-req for me and it's probably the most out of place of my top 5 anime, but it's there because I loved it.

Eca, no, please, don't hurt me.
Ben-to was a big lie. Convenience stores are open 24/7 so there's no such thing as pre-closing time sales. Supermarkets close before my day is over. Where are my sales? Big lie. I am poor.
Hourou Musuko has Nana.
Eca is going to be too busy killing self or flying to Hawaii from mj's post. Alternatively, he can take the sea route with his new ponytail.
this def an old sm song i know but i feel like there is a closer match out there. trouble is i used to know more anime music than anime, because dialup, so its hard to name nythun
Out of curiosity, why do people occasionally defend certain animes by saying "Its okay/good for what it is." As if "what it is" is somehow different from other anime that may not be good for "what they are". Anime is anime, and whats good is good, right? So if you like something/want to say something is good, why even bother adding "for what it is"?

Bento was great! Fighting, crazy and comedy o/
I went to a supermarket in Japan around the time I watched Bento but it was depressingly less violent :D The half price bento's were possible, and some where actually good if you went early. Decent dinner portions for like 250yen (~$3 conversion at the time).
They closed at like 8pm, but their half price stuff started at 7:30pm. People just grabbed some Bentos around 7:15 and waited in store til 7:30 for announcement it was half price before checking out.

I had a similar question and I wanted to post what you just said, but I guess it might have to do with approaching everything differently, or expecting certain things out of a story. It's kind of like how you don't expect like a deep and philosophical narrative from a comedy, or if you're watching a very dark show for comedy it might not be the wisest thing. Not the best of examples, but I'd imagine they go along the same lines.
However ,I do agree that the "for what it is" statement is kind of strange and almost unnecessary though. It makes it sound an excuse for liking the anime and covering up obvious bad things that people might say about it.
