They vary in "similarness" to WA, Koi Kaze looks pretty fucked up lol, I want to take a look at that one eventually. I will not be held responsible if one or more of these suck lol, since I only read a short plot summary and at most saw the "cover" and that was it. Out of the stuff I've watched (around half of them) I don't see how anything is similar to WA other than maybe Kimi no Iru Machi. Well, MAL recommendations tend to be pretty stupid anyway. Let's see if anything happens besides him beating people up or being socially inept. It doesn't really go anywhere and it won't get a second season. Still worth the watch for the comedy and characters. Tonari wont get a second season? Any source on that? *1,743 - Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (Fall, 7 vols) 781 DVD (45%) / 963 BD (56%) Also, Brain's Base doesn't do sequels for their stuff unless it's Natsume. I just have another query: while looking at all the legally obtainable versions of LoGH, there seems to be a strong distaste for the way the DVD release was done compared to the original laserdisc; is there that much of a difference? The DVD release looks wayyyy better. Sure, some scenes were redrawn, and the difference in quality is noticable. But the original stuff that was redrawn looked unbelievably shitty in the first place, and is even more stand-out. I'll post screenshot comparisions when I get home. Okay, comparisons: + Show Spoiler + Note that these comparison shots aren't for 100% of the redrawn scenes, and a very small amount of the show oveerall had to be redrawn. Its mostly concentrated towards the beginning, IIRC.

I disagree, it had some aspects that were better but overall it was not good at all. F/Z made it worse because the established power levels made the feats that were achieved in UBW unbelievable. Shinji magically gaining power to beat both his future hero self and gilgamesh? Retarded. I also personally didn't care for the random heart ripping out scene.

Oh yeah IS 07 was decent/good. I still can't believe Charl came in that classroom "sorry I made too much food, want to share some with me?" and then proceeds to hold a fucking cubic meter big cube in the air. Well not really a cubic meter, more like a dm³ but you get the idea, shit was huuuuuge.
Oh, the voice of that red-dress-girl is REALLY annoying though. Is it just me or is she muttering/mumbling really badly?

If something in F/Z disagrees with them, then that's F/Z's problem. Not that anything actually does conflict between the two.
Also, Shinji never did any of that, that noob just got demolished in every route like a joke.

^ I think he meant Shirou
Shirou beating Gilgamesh has been discussed to death.Simply Gilgamesh acted like a retard by not wearing his armor and not using EA. Also unlimited blade works was a strong counter to gate of babylon

Ah yes my mistake. I meant Shirou. I do somewhat agree that I guess its part of F/Z problem but even in the FSN series Gilgamesh was way stronger then everyone else and the way he was defeated left a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps its because my perceptions were colored by watching F/Z and the FSN series first but the movie just came off as "eeeehhhhhh"
Also: Lancer class is always getting fucked over lol.

Shirou was able to defeat Gilgamesh for a number of reasons, and they made enough sense in the VN. For one thing, I don't think Gil actually used Enuma Elish against him, and just used Gates of Babylon. Gates of Babylon is simply him materializing and throwing random weapons out of it at people. He is arrogant, and doesn't actually master the use of them. With Unlimited Blade Works, its basically Shirou doing the exact same thing, except with magecraft. Hes projecting a bunch of weapons and throwing them at Gil. They make it a point that such a tactic just happens be a "natural counter" to Gil's tactic, since it puts a scrub like Shirou on an even playing field with him, more or less. Gilgamesh lost because of his arrogance, which is only natural for a villain like that IMO.

Gilgamesh is weaker in F/SN than he was in the previous holy grail war because he doesn't have a strong master like Tokiomi or Kotomine suplying him with mana.
After F/Z he has a real body and has to feed off weak humans + Show Spoiler +like the people Kotomine had in the church's basement to mantain it so he doesn't have the same raw power.
Plus he's too arrogant to go all out on any of his fights, specially against Shirou who he hates for "faking" his treasures with his projection. He handicapped himself to humiliate Shiro (no EA no armor) and by the time he realized his mistake it was too late

It probably has to do with the fact that it was a movie, but Shirou gained power and skill very suddenly and fast. Like, no effort at all he was able to start creating weapons AND managing to spar with Archer and later Gilgamesh. In the series he got his teeth kicked in basically every time he tried to fight and sucked at swordplay while he was training with Saber. Gaining his epic hero powers *snap* like that was just poorly done and this is coming from the anime genre where sudden power ups are common place.
Yes Gilgamesh was arrogant but that only goes so far. He only pulled out his trump card at the last second only to get his arm chopped off.

It's less because it's a movie, and more because DEEN decided to skip every fucking scene that was plot relevant.
You don't even know about Gilgamesh arrogance until you see what happens in Heaven's Feel lawl.

I'm talking from reading the visual novel, haven't watched the anime adaptions by DEEN because i've read they are really mediocre.
If you are interested you should read the source material. I think it took me around 80 hours to get all the good/true and bad endings but it should be less if you don't care about the voice acting.

So I'm going to rant, I'm so fucking furious right now that this should go in the "letting off steam" thread... but I might sound crazy if I rant furiously about a terrible anime over there, so you guys are gonna have to put up with it. Even though I might spoil it you should read it so you know why this shit sucks and why you should avoid it. I finished watching this and I had to go for a walk to relax while I furiously ranted to myself in my head, yeah sure it ends as you would expect but it wasn't satisfactory IN THE LEAST.
Short version: STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE ANIME "SUZUKA", it has to be the biggest turd I've ever had the misfortune of wasting my time on. Wow SO FUCKING HORRIBLE. It is literally about a guy who spent 25 and a half episodes obsessed over a girl he SAW from a distance for a few seconds, this girl being the stupidest cunt on the planet, she "gave up" on "love", because some guy confessed to her once and died before she could respond to him so of course she idolized him and didn't want to go through the HORRIBLE experience of having to get over a minor crush, because of course if the next guy who confessed was going to get run over by a bus as well...(she spent 2+ fucking years mourning this dude....) So the obsessed stalker didn't stand a chance until she finally gave up sucking this dead dude's cock. That's what a normal person would do of course.... The characters are as one dimensional, irrational and ridiculous as they get, there isn't one bit of believable story line here. Horribly written piece of crap, if YOU MUST watch this, skip the first 25 episodes and watch the ending, that's basically how 99% of the show goes and you won't have to suffer through 25 and a half episodes of this dude getting a carrot dangled in front of him only to then get rejected, so we can see him being all emo about it and the girl angry because how DARE he confess his love to me. fuck.
Yes that was the short version...
+ Show Spoiler [Long Version] + Wow You know I'm usually very careful about what I watch, I mentioned before I only have a limited amount of time to watch this stuff, I gave up a lot of stuff because of how busy I am so wasting my time this horribly... it just feels like an injustice, I can literally feel like 8 hours of my life were ripped away from me. I avoid the usual shounen garbage because they aren't usually worth my time, I like the Shoujo/Romantic stuff because they tend to be better in quality if a bit samey just like shounen but holy crap this was horrible. This show was literally like if Naruto was stripped away of all the shounen crap and focused on Naruto chasing after Sakura who of course will NEVER like Naruto because she wants Sasuke even if he's the biggest murderer on the planet she will drop everything to be with him if he asked her to, while poor sucker Naruto keeps getting rejected again and again.
This show was just so fucking infuriating, I can't believe I watched 26 episodes of this bullshit, sigh. From the very beginning I knew I didn't like the male lead but holy shit, there was something REALLY wrong with the person who wrote this show. The whole reason this guy was breathing was because he liked Suzuka, literally, he went to school because Suzuka was there, he liked living where he lived because Suzuka ALSO happened to live there :O! OMG!, he joined the track team because... well you can guess why the idiot did it. This has to be the most idiotic human being ever conceived, followed only by the person who thought this was a good character and this was a story worth telling. This guy spent the whole show obsessing over a girl he had a crush on which of course only got worse and worse and they spent time together, the whole reasoning behind everything he did was to impress this girl because he wanted to PROVE that he wasn't a wishy washy idiot who could never commit to anything and amount to anything. This is so aggravating, the guy has 0 goals of his own, his life was pretty much dumb, he had no purpose in life basically of course until he met Suzuka. I watched Kimi Machi a couple of days ago and while their character were similar at least Haruto had a character, he had a vague idea of what his life would be and even if he wasn't with Eba he would make something of himself, but this guy? Nope he was useless.
Basically all the characters in this show functioned this way, Suzuka was only there to show how cool she was jumping that bar thing and only have in her mind that she didn't want a bf because of the dead dude experience, the rebound girl (Honoka) was only there and ever did anything to get the obsessed stalker to notice her, which he does, after getting rejected and rejected she finally finds some courage to kiss him which of course is his first kiss so he accepts to start going out with her because he liked the kiss... then SHOCKINGLY ENOUGH he still only kept thinking about Suzuka :O and an even bigger shock, he was STILL in love with her. Rebound girl obviously saw right through this crap and ended it, I totally did not see ANY of this coming /sarcasm. Then you have the third girl who was one blushed face away from confessing to him as well but never really did because well she was stupid and Suzuka was her friend so yeah... I think the best character in this show was the obsessed stalker's best friend (Yasunobu) who was the stereotypical pervy guy, there is something REALLY wrong with your show when the smartest guy in the fucking thing is the stereotypical perv best friend.
I really do not get how any of these people would exist in the real world, how can anyone mourn the death of someone they liked a little bit for maybe a week ? HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? WHAT!? It is impossible to like any of these people because of how irrational and bone headed they are, it is just unbelievable. How can anyone spend a WHOLE YEAR or more chasing after a guy who is A) Always mad at you for no good reason B) Stops talking to you in several occasions C) REJECTED YOU several times D) Basically told you you were useless more than once and E) Was OBVIOUSLY the most bi polar bitch on the planet. And with a nice girl who was totally up for having sex with you after a couple of months, I mean sure there was more to her than just that, she cooked, she was super cute, she was NICE ALL THE TIME, she had a huge crush on him for like FOREVER, she took care of him while he was sick, she was a wonderful person, etc etc. While Suzuka was none of these things, she lives and breathes to mourn some dude who she barely liked and didn't have time to be nice to anybody, SPECIALLY our protagonist.
Many times I found myself going WHAT? WHY ARE YOU STILL BARKING AT THE WRONG TREE DUDE, HOLY SHIT, JUST GO OUT WITH A HONOKA WHO ACTUALLY LIKES YOU AND IS PRETTIER THAN THIS CUNT!, I can't see anyone being so stubborn about a girl they barely know because they had a crush on her the first time they saw her. Not just this dude's attitude but Suzuka's stubbornness to let go of the fucking dead guy, TALK ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OVER SHIT holy crap. The whole story revolves around these 2 but they were the most revolting and infuriating human beings ever conceived in a story, Joffrey from game of thrones is more likable than these 2 turds. They end up together in the last like 5 minutes of the show because of course they had to make me suffer through 25 and a half episodes of this bull shit, so we don't get to see anything about these people other than "Oh well I guess she finally stopped worshiping this dead dude so I finally get a turn". The only decent part of the show was that the guy was apparently REALLY good short distance runner, but like I said he did everything only so this cunt would like him so he joined the track team for her but ended up being REALLY good, almost too good to be true. But he still didn't think much of it, he was one of the best but he still only thought of doing it for the cunt, he had a bright future with that and would have been interesting to see this aspect of the show evolve, but nope, the cunt finally agrees to be with him but all we get is them holding hands for a few seconds before the show ends and everything else goes to the shitter because of course being your own person is BS when you can get a gf/bf and rely on them for everything, right?.
There is no redeeming aspects to this show, I really can't warn you guys enough. I give Toradora a lot of shit but I actually liked it and this show makes it look like fucking oscar worthy material, heck even Taiga doesn't look so bad now compared to Suzuka or really any of the characters. Taiga was dumb as fuck but at least she wasn't as one dimensional as the characters in Suzuka.
Seriously, do not watch Suzuka, you will regret it. WORST ANIME EVER!. This rant was going to originally be an essay but the walk did me well . Now I'm going to re-watch some Beck episodes to see if I can relax.
