If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

btw ive been watching Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto but im finding it so hard to finish. Mainly due to the cause of the sound effect played everytime the "Lord's Head" is shown in the series, which is quite often. The reason why it bothers me so much is that because it sounds EXACTLY like a probe constructing its buildings. I even logged on BW, went on single player, chose protoss, and built a pylon to compare the two. Yes, exactly the same.

Ive been playing BW for like 10 yrs so everytime i hear that sound effect the atmosphere/mood of the anime completely changes for me . Sucks too, i really want to continue it but im only on episode 10.

Summer Preview. You can also find the Spring preview somewhere in there. I visit that site less and less since Omni left, though, since Dvine and my taste are significantly different.

I don't think any of us actually watched enough on the spring list to give it a comprehensive coverage.

As for me, I'll be catching Mago, Sengoku Basara 2, and The Legend of the Legendary Heroes for sure.

thx for the link yes there is also a spring preview, although i would have prefered some kind of review it helped me picking some stuff - i chose:

Sarai-ya Goyou
(Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei) (no group really covering this one Oo)
Giant Killing
Arakawa Under the Bridge

Hm, just drop it? It got a 6(6,4) from me, so it's not really worth watching....even though I like history and especially this era.

Next time on Durarara: Horoda gets the crap beaten out of him. It's pretty much inevitable. I know he's not the brightest character, but goddamn those were some stupid decisions he made. -_-

I guess the plot of Angel Beats is pretty much done at this point? The preview implied that the final episode would just be tying up loose ends. I can't help but feel that the entire plot was kinda underwhelming. They spent half the season fighting Kanade who they thought was god/acting for god, spent one episode fighting Naoi who said he was god, spent a couple episodes doing nothing, then spent two more episodes fighting shadow things to get to god.
+ Show Spoiler +
And then it turns out that there is no god. -_-

It's like they have no concrete goal (which, in retrospect, might actually be true). The lack of tragedy I expected from Key didn't help my appreciation for this series either.
Where did Kanade get Angel Player from, anyway?

all i know is that the anime is really different from the others that i hv watched so far.
the music, animation, plot literally blow my mind on the first time i watch it

but i have to admit that the story has lots of potential to advance up to 30+ eps and they just about to cut it off right here is kinda ignorance X-(....
FAREWELL AB ^^

P/S: could smbody tell me what 'VN' stands for, kinda new to this thread xD

Watch Clannad, it's a better example of what we expected from Key.

VNs are visual novels. The only thing you do is read, look at the occasional picture/sprite, and make decisions. They're fantastic if you like books.

Nope, that's wrong. There are visual novels where you actually play(a lot) and there are visual novels where you don't make any decisions.

As far as I'm concerned a VN is an audio book with pictures, or a picture book with sound. I'm no less critical of them as I am normal books.

I just finished watching Evangelion and it was a bit of a mindfuck. I watched it before when I was like 7 years old or so and did not make any sense to me at all then. All I remember when I watched it was shinji being emo and a purple robot fighting random monsters.

What can I say about the ending? I thought it was great but also disappointing at the same time. I like that shinji was finally able to finally find his selfworth which is what the entire series was about, but I dislike that everything else was left unfinished and unexplained.

I'll watch the movie sometime soon and maybe that will tie some of the loose end for me.

As for Angel Beats, it just kind of seems like they are all over the place and does not seem to know the direction they are going with the show, and a lot of the characters are left undeveloped. It could have turned into a great show given more time. I don't know what keys was thinking trying to fit all of this into 13 episodes. But I still love Kanade and the music is just awesome so I'll keep on watching it.

Next series I'm planning to watch is Kimi ni Todoke, is it any good?
Lee Young Ho fighting! KT P are just CHINTOSSTIC.

VN where you get to play things? At most VNs have mini games, at the point where you get to 'play' a lot, it ceases being a VN (ADV) and moves into the SLG category. And well, pretty pictures occasionally make you enjoy a VN more, but it doesn't make it better from an objective circumstances.

The 13 episodes thing for AB was probably just a practical limitation on budget, can't expect people to dump in money for 24~26 episodes even if it is Key

As I plan out my summer round of book purchases~

I'm surprised that Eureka 7 hasn't been mentioned at all. It really needs to get more love cause it really deserves it. What are your opinios regarding Eureka?

Also sorry if i'm going a bit off topic but I really need some anime tips. I just recently(5 months ago) got involved with anime and i've really liked. Eureka, Elfen Lied, Tengen Toppa, Death Note, School Days, Hajime No Ippo, Claymore. Any tips are highly appreciated! Thank you Teamliquid

Well, I am not entirely sure what you mean by that really. I've been using this website "Animeftw.tv" to watch anime in DivX quality. Just picked some random show up, but quite a few of them have been really horrible and I honestly gave them a chance.

From my experience i'm not really into the anime comedy stuff were some guy makes a fool of himself all the time, I really enjoy the more serious stuff, if u know what I mean. Like something tragic and something that would bring emotions to the surface. My main problem is that I really dont have a clue which animes are considered quality shows and which arent.

Reading through whole this thread wouldn't be a practical either but i've found a few nice shows from this thread before

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/search.php?q=eureka&t=c&f=1&u=&gb=date It's been mentioned.

I'm actually watching it right now. I haven't been particularly happy with the lack of plot development, but things have been getting a lot better around episode 10. Renton is really annoying though.

Finished Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu. Really liked it a lot.

Hideyoshi has me questioning my sexuality. To combat this, I've switched targets to the Kinoshita twins, and not just Hideyoshi.

Also, if it were genderbent, there would be female activist people thingies going crazy about the abuse.

Tragic/emotional, eh? Well, we'll get plenty of answers like Key+Kyoani, so I'll try to toss some curveballs. Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, Iriya no Sora UFO no Natsu and Shinigami no Ballad.

Southlight will probably be able to guess why these things, wonder who else would notice a pattern

Trap is seriously the new boom, I swear everything from like the last year or so of publishing has some trap.

I'm guilty of watching the first 10 episodes... and the last 2. The middle got a bit tedious =X

One of those was out of place, lol. If you like Eureka 7, you might give Rahxephon a try. Other than that, try Code Geass cause everyone seems to like it. I'm hesitant to recommend stuff like Ef~ and adaptations from VN, though they seem like they would be right up your alley.

Yes, games like Gadget Trial and Sengoku Rance are regarded as Visual Novels. Gadget Trial is a pure Advance Wars clone with some pictures you can view later on via the main menu...and that's it. Sengoku Rance offers different routes and decisions you have to make(and pictures too) but most of the time you just play.
10 years ago VNs were basically just text+pictues, different routes and voice acting were more like an extra but in the past 3-5 years the definition changed...or rather it became more vague. That's why some games without former key elements and different "gameplay" are regarded like this. I definitely prefer the old definition but most people support the new one.

I don't consider the non-book stuff VNs ;x It's why I do my best to specifically differentiate "I'm reading Oretsuba" and "I'm playing Eienshinken."

I also differentiate by saying like "ah that was a good read" as opposed to "ah that was a good game" etc.

E7 is "ok", it gets carried by the female lead and the supporting cast. The back story behind the 2 parties is what drives it. Renton was the reason I almost dropped it because of his annoying attitude; his coming of age doesn't make him any better, it just makes him bearable. The "action" scenes are pretty bland and the villain is hardly a villain (call him prototype-Schneizel). The music was well done and really fit the theme. The settings and locale was well done as well with its incorporation into the episodes. Other than that it's pretty average, it has a strong finish once Renton's little voyage starts and that's what people tend to remember.
Get it by your hands...

Well, you try to live up to the Visual Novel name, at the point where we take Sengoku Rance to be VN we might as well as take all RPGs and call then VN.

Also, I miss Gadget Trial, should find my copy.

Same, enough SLG elements and I'll be using playing instead of reading. Little Buster was stuck in between though
