I like when the drama comes from the actual situation and plot, and not "my god this character cries a lot, there must be some sad shit going on...".
That being said, I would probably watch the movie, the visuals were good. And "forced" drama is easier to accept in a 1h30 format. Is living your life as the murderer of your friend/love is a common thing, which has been over-dramatized by the anime?
+ Show Spoiler +Anyway, I don't think the drama came from, let's say, Menma crying 0-24, it didn't have any effect on me most of the time. No, it was sad, because while everyone were acting for their own selfish reasons, Menma remained the kind, honest friend she's always been. Hell, she didn't even come back to be together with everyone one more time, but to fulfill her love's mother's wish. She was white from head to toe for a reason, and it just highlighted all the dark aspects of her friends. The core of the drama was the suffering of the good, and the unjustice of life. It didn't even have a happy ending; after all is said and done, she's still dead.
Saying that it was all about pointless cryings is way to undersell this anime. There was one point where the writer(s) forced everyone to cry, but I've already seen a similiar scene in a Korean movie, so it must be an asian thing - gotta admit, looks hella weird to me.

I gotta say I just seen the three seasons of bakuman a couple days ago and IMO it is really good. Now its time to continue down my want to watch list and watch more anime.

Won't happen again. Not worth my time. I was young and foolish.
Also, the only reason why was because I think people were being dumb in saying "omg it was so melodramatic and made a big deal out of nothing."

Like that. I think one can be turned off by how melodramatic it got and feel a bit uncomfortable with the attempt at overloading people's emotions with feels....but just don't say something that basically means "why are they crying over their best friend dying?"

I tried watching AnoHana twice. Couldn't get through it. ;/
At least I tried, right?

If you watched the first half once you probably should have watched the second half the second time.
Time waster

Well, a long time passed between the two viewings, so I forgot a lot of details and decided to rewatch it from the beginning.
cheep: Nah, I need to balance my time between anime, video games, and American tv shows/NFL.

Ohhh. Well, I do have a higher tolerance than most people, and can enjoy a lot of shitty anime, but since I don't have all the time in the world to watch anime anymore I just drop shows that don't interest me now.
I'd watch you any day though, cheep.

That sounds like me almost entirely. I can watch almost anything, but time being what it is I don't have the patience for mediocre or shitty shows.

Damn, those passive-agressive hipster attacks on Ano Hana. I request backup!

I liked the majority of Anohana, but near the end, it really felt like they were milking it a bit too much. Considering that the movie's going to have to be more concise than the series, I wouldn't be surprised if I liked it more.

I think thats standard for most people at some point, for about 5-6 years I just consumed everything, last couple of years I've had to be selective, either situation isnt really much worse than the other, I watched alot of supposed garbage and generally enjoyed it. I probably wouldnt even consider your high schoold dxd's anymore where as stuff like qwaiser was np. + Show Spoiler +Qwaiser actually wasnt that bad imo, well, some of it
