I think what I ended up telling the guy was that I gave the show a score lower than a 10/10 (a 7) because it was kind of boring, despite nice music and visuals, to which he got super angry at me and told me "YOU KNOW. THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIKING A SHOW AND ACKNOWLEDGING SOMETHING AS OBJECTIVELY A MASTERPIECE."
Which is bullshit but moving on. I wanna ask a question about Haibane Renmei. This show has had me scratching my head for the last few months because I FEEL like I'm missing something. And I don't know if it's because there's false expectations that there's supposed to be more in the story or if it's seriously because I'm stupid and have overlooked something.
So I know the Haibane are girls that have committed suicide....IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO THIS SHOW OTHER THAN IT BEING A HEALING STORY FOR SUICIDAL GIRLS THAT DON'T REMEMBER ANYTHING?
Because it feels like a lot of the show is layered with very open ended symbolism or scenes that can be interpreted in a million different ways and I don't know if that's intentional or its just being a calm slice of life, which I feel the latter is true.
I mean I still liked the show...just clearly not as much as the guy who got angry at me. And then he yelled at me for not liking Princess Mononoke but whatever.

OK It's not me, I only gave Haibane Renmei a 9 (it's my top 5 fav show, but I recognize it's somewhat flawed). I did give Mononoke Hime a 10 though.
lol <3
I'm just curious because I'm actually pretty dumb, and I don't want to dislike a show because I wasn't paying attention or something.
And as for Mononoke Hime...honestly Porco Rosso is like the only Miyazaki film that I reallly fell in love with. Everything else was like "Good!" or "Pretty good" or "It was okay."
ZNF go read Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Similar symbols, entirely different themes. Pinpoint for me all the places where they differ and I feel like you'll come closer to appreciating each. + Show Spoiler +
Hint: the case that every Haibane formerly went through suicide is a weak one.

If you weren't paying attention, it just means the show failed to capture your attention, and wasn't good.

Just finished Angel Beats, ffffffffff ;_;
Anyone watched Monster? It's got a whole bunch of episodes and pretty good reviews, but I've watched like 8 episodes and it is pretty damn boring so far. Is it worth the time?
Angel Beats has some sad moments but overall pretty uplifting as well.
Monster is great if you can stand the pace, but if slow is not your thing then it's not for you.
Kuresuti I feel you. I was so deadset on watching Monster but the beginning was so slow that... I just lost the initial YEA LETS DO THIS. Became more of a =_= ughhh.
On another note, is anyone watching Railgun S?
Monster's fantastic! But I'm watching Railgun S and getting ready to drop it after episode 16 unless they give me some ITEM filler. I've had enough of Saten-san's adventures.
"Once the "Sisters Arc" is finished, Kuroko and the others will reappear, and the anime will tell the story of their summer vacation. This original story will most likely be similar to the first season's light atmosphere. Also, that certain person who appeared in only one panel of the original manga will also come out. There will also be plenty of fanservice, so please look forward to it." http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2013-06-29/railgun-s-director/season-to-include-original-summer-vacation-story

Well, I mean I wouldn't go as far as to say that I was not paying attention, just wondering if I was missing stuff because I wasn't paying attention to the right things, for instance.
I'll check out the book this summer. I was hoping to read some of his stuff anyway.

Frenda is the best girl.
No Mugino/Frenda swimsuit action means no go from me. I like Mikoto and Kuroko just fine but the rest of the girls are general wastes of screentime to me. Oh well.

That wasted potential with no Misaki during the SoL part...

Check out Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C3-bu. It's about a bunch of high school girls who play war games with airsoft guns.
Did you watch the first two seasons of The World God Only Knows or read the manga at all?
Yeah I did, forgot Season 3 was airing. I think im going to wait for it to finish though.
Watched first episode of C3-bu, thought it was going to be like upotte which I kind of liked since im a gun nut but it felt pretty lackluster to me

Let me tell you a story about "OBJECTIVE MASTRPIECES". A while back, I was told by this one really retarded/stupid person that the Higurashi Anime was an "objective masterpiece". Then I watched it. And as we all know, the Higurashi anime (both seasons) are huge pieces of objective shit. Due to this, I have decided that when someone tells me something is an "Objective Masterpiece", I either consider them to have really shit taste, or to be a malicious troll.
Somehow this got in under my radar. I guess I'll be watching this too, but... Kinda crazy how it seems so radically different from the original Gatchaman.
Izuru gets a power-up and pulls out a chainsaw. Then Jiart decides to power-up as well and his sword turns into a freaking whip. God I love morphing robots.
On a side note, Ange will probably be Izuru's groupie starting next episode.

Holy shit, why is MJP so good??? This is unfair to other anime.
