You can try Shinkai Makoto's other works, Hoshi no Koe and Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho. Hosoda Mamoru's works are awesome too - Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo and Summer Wars.

People that don't like Evangelion give Rebuild of Evangelion a chance?
It's being hailed as much more even-tempered and less enraged than the original series.
And as someone who's seen 1.11 and 2.0 I agree whole-heartedly. It's a welcome change imo.

Ugh finding downloads for this is hard i found Hoshi no Koe and Yakusoku no Basho
but the other three are proving to be difficult. At least difficult to find in a format other then mkv

Why the hate? It's well-animated and explores some pretty pressing questions about an individual's place in the midst of society. A struggle to discover one's identity in others and in what one does. And it's a story about overcoming obstacles, no matter how far they drag one down. And Rebuild develops these themes much more evenly than the original series did, because of a more stable budget and the movie format.
...keep in mind I'm only addressing the contents, not the obviously enormous marketability of the series.

Rebuild 1.1 was really well done. It kept the important stuff in there, and the cuts it made didn't affect the truly dramatic points in the series. The Shamshel (Angel 4) fight was really well done, and it captured Shinji's fear just as well as the original series. The fight against Ramiel (Angel 5) was really, really juiced up, and I loved every second of that fight. The Rei and Shinji scene prior to that fight was also just as well done as in the original.
Then 2.0 came along, and I died inside. I don't even know what they did to destroy the series so badly. Did they hire some Gurren Lagann writers for 2.0? Because that sure feels like what they did. Shinji suddenly somehow got a backbone during 2.0, which confused me. Rei got emotions somehow. I'm so confused. Asuka... I'm ambivalent about. I don't think the increased "dere"ness of her character really fits at all. I have no idea how the "dere"ness will work with her ultimate err... fate. I can't really say anything about Mari though. Don't know anything about her background.

Cut. 8th Angel (Magma creature)? Cut. 9th Angel (Acid guy)? Cut. 10th Angel... Ok... 11th Angel (Computer hacking)? Cut. 12th Angel (Shadow Angel. Where is Shinji's psychoanalysis??? What the hell.)? Cut. 13th Angel (Eva possession - Changed. Now Asuka is the one out of commission). 14th Angel (Now 10th in Rebuild)? I have major beef with that. Where is Eva 01 going berserk and CONSUMING Zeruel? Why is Zeruel now consuming Eva 00? Where the fuck is the 15th Angel that forced Asuka to relive her worst memories? Where is the self-destruction of Eva 00? Why in the world is the 17th Angel appearing already? And the most important question:
How the fuck is Third Impact taking place without the union of Adam and Lilith?
But whatever. I will wait for it to finish before I do pass final judgment, but I don't get it at all.
