The season 2 is starting, is the season 1 worth watching to catch up? Damn, decent seiyuu line-up too. That's a surprisingly high rating, considering that the only thing I ever hear about the anime is how bad the cgi is. If you manage to get used to the cgi (the cgi gets better after some episodes, but is still bad at the end), it becomes a really good anime.
It's basically just a totally cliche mischievous underdog defeating a series of increasingly strong opponents, which always singlehandedly turns the tide of the battle. I'm addicted to it though.

gargantia ep 11: + Show Spoiler +Oh look, it's the as cliche as it can ever get plot of one dude with superior technology appearing as god. How innovative. Oh and dude wants his son, I mean, subordinate to join? And he will have second thoughts when he will have to shoot at his friends? Again? I really really hope that they will be able to make something good out of this, because right now it's a story I've seen thousand times

Not sure if I can even give it a 5/10 any more Yeah same feeling, except I would give it even 8, but after ep 8-9, it's all going downhill. It's like the worst direction of plot they could ever make, imagine if it went up like this: + Show Spoiler +Everything is fine and dandy, he kills the hideauze, learns the truth, and then he receives a signal from his fleet that he can meet with them somewhere. And he goes, leaving Earth and Gargantia behind. Later he becomes some kind of legend and lives in hearts of the people which drives them to gather the technology at the bottom of the ocean and reacquire space-flight technology, The End Or maybe it's just me, I like those kind of a legend-like stories and for me there is not enough of them in sci-fi settings

think they fucked up gargantia for a lot of people by having the style of the character development and actual story contrast so weirdly. people looking for that scifi adventure/slice of life end up disinterested by the sudden 'let's fuck with your perception of things' shit urobachi always writes, and the people who went into it expecting urobachi got bored by the light, everyday interlude that was eps like 3-7
basically the different elements worked against each other instead of complimenting each other. might have worked if urobachi had actually written with murata the whole time and they found the balance, but as is it's just a cool idea they didn't execute.
either way i'm enjoying the series so whatever. definitely could have been a lot more though

That doesn't sound any less clichéd, or any better, than what we're getting right now.
Gargantia is decent at best, but the recent episodes are far from terrible.
current speculation:
+ Show Spoiler +Kugel is dead/the cockpit is empty, Striker (+ Chamber?) is final boss.

Finished Durararamehra. + Show Spoiler +Seriously, disappointing on every field I could think of, except for animation - that was solid. Graphic design was also ok, but the rest... From weak story, to annoying main characters, everything was throwing me off this series and it's a suprise I actually finished it. One couple of medium quality characters, the main ones were terrifying - most of the time I was hoping that somebody would finally kick them. Reminds me of Eureka Seven, but then at least the main hero was being punched in the face few times. And when they tried in DRR to put in some "more serious" plot it was just plain bad and made me want to kill people. How this have so great reviews is beyond me. 5/10
Also, didn't mention my previous one, Aoi Bungaku. + Show Spoiler +But this one is hard to judge, every one of the six part of different. Some are just ok and some are nice and good, depends. But no way I can rate that. Still, I was rather enjoying the show, it was interesting thing to see. Also, the design and art were nicely done.

Never understood the rave about durarara either, I felt it was pretty lackluster and lost interest towards the end.

Gargantia was like a 6 when it started. To me it was always like "It's not horrible, and it has the potential to go somewhere...not very far but still somewhere..."

Looking through myanimelist artists... its amazing how the same actors are doing voices for different anime! I can recognize some, but most not!

I know this is something that you guys have already discussed and i'm behind the times w/e but I just wanted to post a thought after reading Kizumonogatari.
Araragi is an idiot and irritated me at the end. I guess its not surprising based on what he has done in the past but still.....stupid self righteous kid.

DRRR is anime is pretty butcher, ruined Saika, and not enough Celty / Shizuo

Kizu is all about explaining Tsubasa, and grown up Shinobu.

Well it is also a pretty nice bit of information for Araragi, some people would certainly be pissed off about that aspect of him.
I just think it is a nice change from ii-chan lawlz.

I thought Dura was good. Maybe I'm not elitist enough?

The multiple main character approach didn't really accomplish anything and the highschool trio part just wasted a ton of time that ultimately didn't go anywhere. In terms of the anime, it was pretty poorly paced and didn't speed through the weaker parts of the series.
Honestly it just took the author too long to realize that the side characters were the ones people want to see.
