It doesn't really make much sense. The series would be infinitely better if it was just 20ish year old characters. So, aside from character design and the basic plot being silly, it's so-so. The animation is undeniably good, though. The reason people think it's good is because they've never seen MAGIC girls in GRIM setting. Note: I never finished the series because I thought it was stupid.

Madoka. That was almost as funny as all the crying about TI3 tickets.

It's kind of ironic because what people who go around sprouting his "law" say is not what he meant at all. I repeat Sturgeon’s Revelation, which was wrung out of me after twenty years of wearying defense of science fiction against attacks of people who used the worst examples of the field for ammunition, and whose conclusion was that ninety percent of SF is crud. Using the same standards that categorize 90% of science fiction as trash, crud, or crap, it can be argued that 90% of film, literature, consumer goods, etc. are crap. In other words, the claim (or fact) that 90% of science fiction is crap is ultimately uninformative, because science fiction conforms to the same trends of quality as all other artforms. It's beyond me why people say stuff like that other than to appear edgy, because it's not like you are in a position to make such a judgement anyway. One guy here says he started watching last year, and apparently he can make a statement like that? This fits pretty well here: Critic's Corollary: 90% of people lack the taste necessary to distinguish between crud and non-crud. Critic's Second Corollary: 90% of people will criticize 90% of what they see regardless of their ability to distinguish crud from non-crud. As for Madoka, it gets a lot of shit for the most stupid reasons. Yeah, maybe no one explicitely said it's bad, but people imply that it's not good and is only perceived as such by others because they never saw a dark mahou shoujo before and get off to grimdark suffering or because everything else is shit (which brings me back to my initial point). I have read this complaint a couple of times already and it baffles me how people can think that. Why would you bother rating it then? On May 08 2013 09:23 BurningSera wrote: secondly i dislike the main male character wat

Shirokuma Cafe (しろくまカフェ Shirokuma Kafe?, lit. Polar Bear's Café) is a Japanese manga series by Aloha Higa (ヒガ アロハ Higa Aroha?). It revolves around the everyday lives of a group of animals mingling with humans at a café run by a polar bear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirokuma_Cafe You kidding right...? LOL.

Yes, though I guess since it's Hey Sean, I can never know. Death Note is hard to just recommend you something because it's just so mainstream that it's hard to really point to any clear follow ups. Haven't watched it, but maybe give Monster a try?

Code Geass is probably the closest thing I can think of, just because of the dynamics (mindgames) between Lelouche and his adversaries are very similar to the way Light and L played out for the first half of DN.

I really like comparing CG and DN because both had a good first half. And then it just went straight to shit in the second half.

Are there any other Mahou Shoujo shows which are similar to Nanoha (aka great action)? I barely remember anything about Sailor Moon (I watched it as a kid, etc), I wonder if I should go for that when I'm done with all this mecha I've been piling up. Well, other than being Mahou Shoujo, it isn't really like Nanoha, but if you are looking for Mahou Shoujo+great action+actually a good anime, check out Heartcatch Precure. I'm serious, its a legit show, and has excellent fight choreography. Vividred is similar to Nanoha as well, although not as good. Even I watch/enjoy things I know to be shit from time to time. Not really surprising. Or maybe it is barely passable at best.

I wish I had read the manga first, because I think it's probably a much better medium for telling the story. The premise wasn't bad, but it could've been wrapped up in 3 seasons easily for much better dramatic effect. Too many episodes where nothing happens, filler characters that go nowhere, it really desensitized me to the suspense they were trying to create with the main storyline. I never really felt any anticipation towards the next episode. My opinion has nothing to do with the lack of action by the way. Dialogue-driven drama/horror/mystery is actually my favorite genre of anime, but I was very disappointed with Monster.
