Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei looks like it's going to be one of the best shows of the season with a quick yet solid narrative pace while maintaining character development and an interesting plot. It's also very well animated, not on par with Saraiya Goyou, but there's always something moving, always something going on in any shot, which impresses, though that's not where my interest in the show lies. The premise is akin to Endless Eight, but it just pulls it off much better. The characters actually develop really well in each rendition, and the renditions are different enough such that it's interesting finding the differences in each version. Then again, I've only watched two episodes of it, so we'll see. Unfortunately Durarara from the Fall is slowing down and its getting a bit lazy. I see a lot more still frames and shots that don't do anything - not even build drama. It's just a bit disappointing in that regard, but the story is moving ahead rather quickly. On the other hand, Angel Beats looks to be picking up plot wise. I still have serious issues with how it mixes in comedy when the goddamn scene is supposed to be drama based! For God's sake, I'm so pissed that while we're trying to empathize with Tenshi's plight during the exams, we get scenes of people flying in rocket chairs 4 scenes in a row! Combine that with Yuri screaming twice in a row, which is so over the top that it's unbelievable, and anything building up to that point was just lost in my mind. However, I'm glad that everything after that completely tugged at the heartstrings, and that was really overpowering. So overpowering in fact, that I'm willing to forgive the first half of the episode. All we need is less fail comedy... I also just realized that I'm actually devoting a lot of time to Angel Beats rants ![]() As for the rest of the shows in the Spring season, I'm less than impressed. Rainbow continues to be over the top, but it's so intense and the character development is done really well. However, it's still done well. The big problem that I can see is that the primary reason I'm still drawn to the show is because of its fast pace. If that slows down, I don't think I'll be as interested in it... I've stopped watching Arakawa and Maid-Sama, partly because everything else this season overpowers it, but more importantly because everything I've seen from those two shows I've seen done before. I'm only maintaining a passing interest in those shows from what I hear in discussions, but I honestly can't justify wasting my time with those shows anymore. As for Night Raid, I've stopped watching it for now because of losing interest, but if someone can convince me to watch it again I'll pick it up. Every other show that isn't mentioned, I'm not interested in it for various reasons. You know, it's actually very interesting to see how I've changed from: Well, I suppose it'll all come down to actually watching the Spring season then. Unfortunately the only one that just jumps out at me this season is Angel Beats, as compared to multiple ones for previous seasons :/. Well, I await the new season! and The Spring season is slowly dying out for me... Shows that had potential are failing miserably. I'll have to watch Angel Beats 2 to see if this season can be saved... While praying for Manglobe to bring this season back from the brink. to this post. Edit: Wow I never realized what a wall of text I posted until I clicked 'post' and I even resisted the urge to talk more ![]()

It was definitely very natural and it was well integrated into the plot. With Angel Beats, the comedy completely interrupts the drama that's supposed to be going on. I have no problem with comedy as a part of a series like you see in something like Saraiya Goyou. I do have a problem with comedy when it's exaggerated and conflicts with the rest of the show.

Can't say I found that in bake the humor was particularly integrated into the story, the dramatic moment and the thought provoking times simply take backseat to the humor there. AB tries to more or less balance the two without playing one as a less apparent factor. Personally, I don't have an issue with this approach at all. If anything, it is more or less a norm level for visual novel esque things.

Gahara's relentless intellect barrage) and making fun of cliche and such, whereas AB comedy is forced humor via stereotypical characters and crazy situations. In that case, AB is infinitely better for everyone using subtitles. Gahara's wits just don't translate over to English accurately enough, the original Japanese was something to appreciate because it was a beautiful display of her character and capabilities, subs aren't. Well, you made the point before too, but other than Gahara (and to an extent Hachikuji the meta character), Nishio Ishin does happily abuse the normal stereotypes. Yeah Nadeko's school swimwear in shrine is a novelty ![]() Well, since Mystlord says he isn't as big a fan of Bake now as he was then, I think my point is done. EDIT - Actually, speaking of Bake, I should unwrap my vol 5 bd at some point to watch the episode of awesome. kyzers0ze, avoid those kinds of posts. We don't want this turning into 4chan.

Seriously, if it was really out and I missed ordering it and shipping it with some of the new bungaku shoujo books I would've used international express options to whisk it right here. Or take a day off work and pray Kinokuniya is cool and carries it day one.

Finally watched vol 5 bake, episode 12 was so awesome. Probably my favorite scene in the whole novel (bake only, anyway, once we count in kizu and nise it gets harder to find a clear winner)

Semi tempted to watch just because Hanazawa Kana looks like she'll be in it (as kuroneko? wtf I'd almost cry miscast)...maybe if I really need a dose of romantic comedy when it shows I guess. lo~li~con! si~su~con! Coming out desune~ :p I'll watch a few episodes just for shits and giggles, and to see if I missed out on anything by passing over the novels. I'm finding Angel Beats!' comedy segments more annoying than anything else, and I also didn't actually find most of Bakemonogatari that funny either, but when the humor fails, I still found Bake's dialogue interesting enough to listen to/read that it made up for it. But I mean, as we went over, I didn't like Bake/etc. that much, which is why you told me to read Kizu, which I haven't done yet. This season I'm liking House of Fives Leaves and Working!! (although as with all comedies we'll see if it lasts). Durarara is nice but + Show Spoiler + I pretty much assumed Anri was the cutter from the first time we saw the cutter. Maybe I'm just jaded? I'm used to characters never being "worthless" so her "coming out" was not particularly surprising. Celty being the third didn't cross my mind, although in retrospect that, too, should not have been a surprise
