He's not somebody who's just playing sports, he was a top 10 or some crap. The point is he is stupid because in things that were mirroring what he was considered "pro" in, he failed to apply his skills to that environment in a reasonable amount of time. It shouldn't take a third of his arsenal to figure it out.

+ Show Spoiler +Just some quick thoughts as I'm rather busy right now to write anything too long. Kurosu's past is finally revealed. How he was made as a slave by some aristocrat and eventually a sex toy. He and Youko were in the same situation and that was how they knew each other.
Also, Youko is pretty fucking crazy too. I guess they are all broken in some way which is why they are in that school in the first place.
And Yutaka was one of the people who had raped him in there. But Yutaka lost his memories of it. When Kurosu finally found out that it was Yutaka, he told him about it and cornered him to commit suicide.
Gah, even though I know what has happened to Kurosu, I can't help but feel disgusted by him. He is pretty much a borderline rapists.
I do like how they are handling the hedgehog dillema though. He can't help but feel longing towards other people, but when he does interact with other people, he ends up hurting them.
I'll just leave it at that for now as I have to go now.

I think it was reasonable. You can be however good you want at a video game, It took some time for the reality situation to sink in and he obviously was going to make mistakes. Lets not forget he had no memory of what happened.
One moment your NEETING it up, the next your hanging from a parachute in the middle of nowhere playing it for real and people are trying to kill you. The notion quite frankly to anyone would be absurd and take a little bit ot register.
Also it was the pretty well part that was important in the analogy, not the playing sports part.

Okay so knowing there's a number counting down on something that is similar to the things you used in a video game doesn't spark anything in your brain? How about if you played a fps game and then were handed a gun in real life, would you not know what the trigger would do? These are sad excuses for not knowing simple things.

Pulling the trigger is hardly all there is to shooting a gun. I dont know how many you've shot. I promise you the best fps player on the planet wouldnt know the first thing to do ( if he hadnt done it before for real) if he actually got handed one and people were trying to shoot him.

Shooting a gun and tossing grenades is a lot more difficult than you'd expect (maybe tossing grenades wouldn't be as hard) and I'd say the life-and-death thing compounds how badly they'd tend to screw it up.

The guy showed up on a deserted island without any memories, he randomly has a bomb, and then all the sudden this crazy dude shows up and starts trying to murder him. They even went out of their way to explain why he was so confused at the start. You know with the whole couldn't remember anything about why he was here or what was going on. Everyone else got the speech about killing each other and getting the little gems. He, however, did not remember any of that. So, it's pretty natural that he'd be extremely confused at the start not to mention someone was trying to kill him. I think the fact that he even adapted so quickly to the situation was credited to his nerd gaming skills. They didn't go extremely over board with it. They put him in a situation that was out of hand and had him figure it out in panic mode.

Yet he's able to deduce that these thrown things are bombs. He even instinctively or not threw the 1st timed object in his hand away. You can't say he was not capable of using his brain at all when he's putting up thoughts knowing that these things explode, object that counts to 0 should not be in his hand, why am I in this place, what is going on, etc. It's clear that he was somewhat capable of using his brain to some degree and that he knows objects explode and timer to 0 = bad. Along with prior experience from a game he's played a lot in and is very good at, he should be able to come to a conclusion in that the objects in his pouch are timed explosives. Yet it took him like what, 5 bombs to get it through to his head that's you know still running thoughts in his "panicked state". For that, he is stupid in that one instance of time. I'm not saying he's a stupid person period. He doesn't need to know he's playing a real life instance of btoom, it's reasonable to say he would never figure it out till much later because of he had memory loss from that point in time.
If source material says otherwise then well anime production is to blame and that episode can easily be implied as "MC going through a stupidity phase".
