If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

Is there a good website to get some info on manga release (English version)? I started buying the Fate Stay night graphic novels (got 3). And am about to order 8 more to get all the 11 that are currently released in English (19 were released in Japanese). but if the serie is dead (as in they don't plan to translate all 19, I might not buy them ; I don't like owning incomplete stuff)

EDIT : Oh wow, Tokyopop is dead. What will happen to their license with Fate/Stay Night? Dunno, I might not buy them now... would feel weird to buy something incomplete and that may never be completed.......

Just read online. Baka-updates, aka www.mangaupdates.com, keeps track of every fan translated series in several languages, they're also better than pretty much any official release that was released before the last 2 years, when people started hiring fanlators and fansubbers quality went way up on all official releases. www.mangatraders.com have a fairly complete archive of most fanlated series, however the translation group's official release over DDL or IRC XDCC on Rizon or IRCHighway are the most updated versions.

Yea, I already use those to read online, thanks. But I wanted to actually buy some of the stuff to support them (just like how I sometimes end up buying movies/series that I enjoyed alot). It probably doesn't give anything (and maybe nothing), but if my money can help them keep running, then its not lost!

I guess I'll have to decide whether or not I want to buy the 8 manga to complete the three I have :S

If you just look a series up on amazon you can find out official release/release dates typically, or just publisher website. Dunno what to tell you otherwise.

Hey everyone, first time posting here !! I usually watched one anime here and then so i don't have a big number under my belt.. But nowadays i want one after another so i hope i will be posting here more often Just finished Guilty Crown( which i liked besides the fact i hoped for a better ending). Anyway i am thinking of watching the movie series Kara No Kyokai(sth like that) the amvs got me pretty pumped! Do you guys reccommend it?

KnK is great but may be kind of confusing for someone unfamiliar with the Nasuverse.

Yea, but the GN were released by the publisher Tokyopop. And I just looked it up, but it would appear Tokyopop stopped publishing (they kind of shut down). So I'm kind of curious if someone else will pick the serie, or if its a dead serie

EDIT : Also just started Pandora Heart. The beginning is really interesting. Let's see how things evolve from there!

Regarding Pandora Hearts... either watch the whole thing, then purge the last 3 (?) episodes from your memory and then start reading the manga from like chapter 32-33. Or just don't watch the last three anime episodes. Whatever you do, don't just stop with the anime - read the manga. Most of the awesomeness is there, and there are so many plot twists that turns everything upside down. Sadly it's a monthly manga though - last month we got like 22 pages, and then bam another month worth of painful waiting.

Anyone watching Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi?
Not that I have a thing for lyrics but I like the characters and also the animation actually. The stories are nicely delivered imo

Somehow, since I started watching Natsume, I got a thing for "warm/kind" animes and especially for slice of life stuff, like Sakamichi no Apollon etc etc.

why do you say "if you enjoyed LN"? It makes it sound like reading is a prereq to being able to like it and might prevent people interested from attempting it. Pretty sure you don't need to have enjoyed source material to enjoy an adaptation. If anything, you have less expectations.

Because it is a recommendation. People certainly could (and probably should) enjoy it without reading LN. But I don't think they deserved to be recommended to people who have not.

If they are good as KnK / FZ / FMP (or Scrapped Princess / Haruhi) I would recommend regardless read LN or not, but these are not at that level.

You left out Lagrange for "if you enjoyed the previous season" part.

Also, Nobuna is pretty good on its own, regardless if you have read the LN or not (barely anyone in ADT other than like Eca and Uta are even able to read Japanese in the first place, since i'm pretty sure its not translated).

But why can't you just say it's not very good? "It's nothing amazing but I'm enjoying x anime this season." Like Sent said, most LNs have no translation so people who can't read Japanese don't have the option to read them. You're just preventing people from exploring shows with that kind of statement. Or you could name different anime that are comparable in quality to give the person an idea of what he is getting into? "If you liked x, you might want to try y anime." I feel like you're better off not saying anything rather than "I rec this BUT only if you enjoyed the LN" when you also consider that anyone who did enjoy the LN would probably already be aware of its adaption.

At times, reading the LN seems to make people hate the anime adaption too. I'm pretty sure the people who hate Horizon more than anyone else in this thread are the people who have read the LN, while the people who are more tolerant of it are the people who have not. So in the end, I don't think "having read/experienced the source material" shouldnt be a factor in recommending an anime since it can go both ways, unless its a blatant fan service anime like SRW:OGIN (aka Fan Service: The Game: The Anime).

Yeah, I think Campione and Hagure are definitely more enjoyable if you read the novel, and Horizon is more enjoyable if not (which is why it's in a different category). I don't think anyone read the novel "hate" Horizon. We are more frustrated than anything else. I think the director is doing a really good job, and the animation quality is outstanding, but cut nearly 2000 pages into 13 ep is not satisfactory.

Because I don't know if that's true or not. I just don't think it worth recommending unless enjoy the novel.

I guess it could be taken as "if you haven't read novel you won't enjoy these", but what I meant was "if you enjoyed the novel you more likely than not would enjoy it, if not you might or might not but I wouldn't recommend them as best ones of the season."

Well just going by those anime you listed, I wouldn't recommend watching SAO at all unless you are looking for a "so bad its good" anime like Guilty Crown, IDK about Campione or Hagure since I haven't watched them, and Nobuna is fine without having read anything.
