If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

Steins;Gate was popular, I think I've heard of Canaan before but I have no idea what its about.

An anime isn't "very well done" if you have to refer to outside sources in order to understand everything.

Hey, you never know. I would be inclined to say that certain things would be nicer with a holographic display with little to no loss in practicality while others (like typing) would, of course, be better with a physical input. Maybe if everything were voice-controlled? But then it wouldn't work well in public places. I dunno, but if there's money to be made, someone will think of something. Perhaps holographic displays and having a touch sensation don't necessarily preclude each other. We have glass displays that let us feel texture already, maybe the same effect could someone be reproduced on a finger? At this point I'm sort of grasping at straws though.

No.

The main reason why 3D UI is awful is because it's not erogonomic at all. The average office work day is roughly eight hours or so. You can't possibly expect to be comfortable with your arms hanging in the fucking air the entire time. And while you can speculate all you want about holograms having tactile feedback, you can't get around the fact that it will consume ungodly amounts of power in doing so.

Where is the money to be made in holographic UI? Holographic displays make sense because presenting a 3D object is best done in a 3D medium. A UI, on the other hand, offers little benefit over existing solutions. You could possibly make an argument for intuitiveness, but honestly, learning gesture controls isn't that much easier than learning key combinations.

Voice controls are also awful. How often do people use Siri? I've never actually seen anybody use it outside of just screwing around. It's just impractical.

Thank you both for the info.

Out of curiosity, any anime similar to Highschool DXD but that is not ECCHI (aka, no half naked girl). In other words, something more serious about demon x angel, or just good vs bad?
Just noticed the new OVA that came out the 9th september. The episode seems to be pushing it (the nude) further than the regular anime

I don't think Canaan is bad... it's fine.

As for DxD pushing it with the OVA... well, if it's anything like the specials it's almost hentai worthy.

Canaan is decent, but you might want watch Noir first. Sort of similar style but better. It's the original "girl with gun" series, and it has vintage Yuki Kajiura. It's dated (2001) but does hold up pretty well.

Eh yeah Noir is about a hundred times better, also yay for Kajiura ... but as I said, Canaan is fine. I really like Black Lagoon too, though it's not exclusively "girls with guns".

Assassination Classroom had a fun chapter, I actually really like this style of character development. Humor is well done, too.

Roberta's Blood trail? Lol, Black Lagoon was the first anime I actually watched on my own (friend threw death note in my face a few years ago though), I watched the OVA and waited for the episodes to come out... didn't really watch any other anime until this year. So yeah, I've watched the OVA. It's pretty brutal :D

That's my whole point... The directing and quality are all very good, but the 13 ep restriction put a really low ceiling on it.
