The movie was enjoyable even with the horrible engrish but at least it had somewhat of a plot. Just finished Moyashimon and I must say, for such a bizarre/unique series it was very entertaining. + Show Spoiler + Childhood trap friend was still WTF though lol.

Ya lol. I primarily watched it to take a break from intense plot driven action animes and just wanted to watch a random slice of life/school/relaxed anime while I read Horizon and start uni (omg school). Next to Toaru no Indexxx!

Episodic != Formulaic While neither moves forward very fast (if at all), there's a difference between something being episodic (each episode or chapter not related to the others, standalone stories) and something being formulaic (same setup every time). Something can be both, but Cowboy Bebop isn't formulaic, just episodic. Each episode is different in setup, buildup, climax, and conclusion, but is a separate story that doesn't move the overall plot forward/moves it very slowly. House, in this example, can be broken down into mysterious illness, House thinks it's easy, it's not, he gets mad at real life issues, suddenly has a breakthrough because of a random comment, magically cures the patient with obscure methodology, everyone gets mad at him but respects him. The only difference in most episodes is the type of disease/cure and sometimes the patient dies. A formulaic would be like DBZ style shounen fights. "oh, he's strong! but I have a powerup!" " I too have a powerup!" "My friends give me power!" "I have a secret and/or forbidden technique!" "My will cannot be broken!" "This isn't even my final form!" "Call out a move and win because of plot!"

So basically ffgen wants an anime with really good story? btw I get your explanation at how cowboy bebop doesnt follow a formula like house, but it does fit the description of "takes you there and back every episode, but doesnt take you onward" imo
