How on earth is Clannad realistic? Not a single character is Azumanga Daioh is realistic either... You really need to define realistic. Realistic characters? Maybe Haibane Renmei. Realistic plot? Maaaaaybe Monster, but frankly that's pretty unrealistic too. Frankly I haven't seen any anime I would call "realistic" -- it seems like a really silly use of the medium. Animation is like a blank canvas, where you can draw anything, as opposed to the more rigid constraints of live action. Why would anime want to be realistic anyway? If it wanted realism, it could just be live action instead. Or you can just say "fuck realism" and watch Gurren Lagann or something. :p | ||

I don't think there is any anime that's totally realistic and like others have mentioned.. why should they be? However, let's see what I can come up with- Monster, Gungrave, Genshiken, Welcome to the NHK, Kenshin OVAs, Tokyo Magnitude, Nodame Cantabile... I'm blanking here on anime with decent story lines. But if you are in to romances(I'm a sucker or them) and sports there are plenty of them. Romance- True tears, Honey and Clover, REC, etc Sports- Major, Hikaru no Go, Shion no Ou, Wild Striker etc.. | ||

Realistic if you don't mind movies could be like 5 Centimeters Per Second, and The Place Promised in Our Early Days. As for series, I dunno. Ghost in the Shell does a good job of portraying the struggle with the government and corruption though. | ||
