If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

I actually liked 2nd GIG a bit more than Season 1 because it seemed tied together a bit better.

I feel the exact same way.

It's currently 300 yen / item + 2700 yen to the US. So that's $3.32 / item, $30 per order.

On the other hand JP manga is incredibly cheap!

Gundam Unicorn just came out (an ova series with like 6 episodes). The first episode blew me away. I went in with low expectations, but it was a return to what made the old series great and is one of the better episodes i'd seen in a while.

There should be 6 60min episodes but.... they will be released (apparently) over the course of 3 years, with 2 a year (the next in like august or sept). Sucks ya, but the episode is still great.

You ever hit the weight limits? I recall it starts scaling up exponentially after a point. Besides, when you consider how you buy 10 books, call it $8 each, for $80 worth of orders you are paying $50+ for shipping. That's pretty bad honestly...well, it could be that every time I want to buy I have over 40 vols on my list piled up.

Well, as much as this mobile suit kicks so much ass, the pilot sucks SOOOOO bad (can't even own the weak Jagen. Man, I wanna see 1337 pilots like Amuro Ray or Kira Yamato.

But now I WANT SO MUCH MORE. I kind of don't want to read the manga in case the anime keeps coming. I don't think I've ever read manga then watched the episodes before but I would imagine it detracts from the experience. I'd rather go anime > manga to see what I missed / get more story

I'm so fucking stupid. Last night I decided to give Ga-Rei Zero another go...and I ended up staying up all night until 6am and watched every single damn episode. Despite having a really stupid start, it ended up being a pretty damn good anime in the end. Now I have 19 hours to write a paper -_-.

Yeah I know what you mean. That only works for quality anime adaptations, though.

Yeah...that was what made me drop the show the first time around. It was just too fast and too random and way too cheesy...a guy with drills coming out of his hands and the whole stupid briefcase thing. The first set of characters were all just so damn boring...like shit that had been done a million times before...

Then I got to the third episode and it was great.

The beginning of Ga Rei Zero was hilariously great. There are some troll anime that are bad (Haruhi Endless Eight, Code Geass R2), but the first episode of Ga Rei zero was a good troll.

The Kushatorya (and its pilot) look nice though. Mech looks silly in illustrations but is damn elegant in animation <3 I still think it looks like a rip off of Machine Mess Auge though.

I seriously considered dropping Ga-Rei: Zero after the first 2 episodes. Thank god for the rest of the series.

I loved that briefcase thingy

I guess on the subject, should I start reading the manga again? After watching the anime I started the manga, but it was so freaking generic -- random guy meets random action girl who's skirt flies up every battle and who has the character development of porridge. Does it get any better, or should I just screw it?

Edit -- and I found the first ep of Ga Rei Zero hilarious too. I was like "what? Um... ok..."

I have not watched anime in years. Just finished a couple short series:
Now and Then, Here and There (8/10)
Gunslinger girl. (7/10)

Gunslinger girl has a dollhouse thing going on. Little girls are turned into killing machines. Action and drama. The main thrust of the plot is largely about the emotions the girls and their handlers go though.

Now and Then, Here and There is a tragedy, bitter sweet. My kind of story. A heavy aiming show where a kid has to deal with war, indoctrination, killing, rape and abortion. While it dealt with "adult" issues it was often simplistic and probably best watched in teenage years.

Yeah I felt Now and Then, Here and There actually touched upon some of the heavier issues in life, and I do agree that it dealt with the issues a bit simplistically. It would have been better if it delved ia bit deeper into the minds of the other soldiers instead of just the main character. However, while I considered Shuzo's actions childish, it seemed more realistic that way. I think he was portrayed somewhat as an average teenager, and I don't think it is reasonable to expect him to deal with the issues in an adult manner.

Shu's actions? Realistic? Some guy who thinks he's Pangloss? Yeah right.

The story was like Candide. The only difference? Shu never changes.

I thought his actions were based more on blind idealism than anything else, and when a guy from a civil culture into the middle of a war where injustices are rampant, some people naturally get a sense of justice imo.

Though I may be remembering Shu's actions to be less extreme than they actually were.
