Cowboy bebop is soooo good!! Watch the english dub!!

Cowboy Bebop shouldn't even be compared to any other anime. It's a masterpiece, playing in a league no anime TV shows could ever reach.
This was a 100% unbiased comment

Im on episode 11 right now watching english dubs since its a nice break from reading subs, yes some voices are horrid but I like the main character voices so its bearable
|
Watching "hundred stories" aka "requiem for a darkness" - so far loving the characters in it. :D Mataichi so far is one of my favourite characters I've seen in different animes, not sure why. Episodes feel structured like in cowboy bebop. Themes are different ofcourse (magic, darkness etc). Pretty old anime, I wondre if there's something similiar animes to it where theres group like that doing stuff, and the spirit of anime is pretty chill even when theres little disturbing events. Checked couple of recommendations from some animesites but they were pretty cheesy and not what i was looking for. Well maybe it's little too unique even when you think about it, it doesn't feel very special in any way.

1 bad voice actor is more than enough for me to switch back to subs. And since when is reading subs a burden, unless you are a really slow reader. Well to each his own, but I am pretty sure that if you are watching dubs for series, you're missing out on a ton.

Most of the time I notice it's dub from before any talking has been done, if that tells you anything... Not to really hate upon those who use dubs, I understand that in some countries people are not used for subs and its quite sad because I think stories especially should be embraced as originall as they were. Like in best case you would not use even subs, since there's sometimes little misleading things in subs too compared to what was originally said.

I am uneducated and my views on anime are too extreme to be allowed in a non-public space like the private IRC of these guys I suppose. My fault more than anyones though, it's not that they are mean, I am just not a popular guy.
As for dubbing, I can't do it usually. I want to hear the original direction the voice actors are trying to do justice, not poorly paid english voice actors trying to emulate it. Also, anime girls in english get unbearable real quick, japanese is just so beautiful, even whiny chicks sound good. The only dubbed thing I've seen is Princess Mononoke, which I had to watch in english, but that dub blew my mind it was so good. Better than almost any animated movie I've seen in any language I thought, especially Gillian Anderson as the motherwolf was amazing.
EDIT: Just thinking of what some jackoff struggling LA actor would do with Caster from Fate/Zero gives me shudders for instance..

For starters, I agree that subs are normally better, but that reason right there is just odd. Do you think 100% of japanese seiyuus are good? Honestly, I think that since most people here are fluent in english, so we can tell good and bad voice acting in english. But since we don't speak Japanese, we don't have that same ability to pick out bad voice acting from the original audio (outside of just generally annoying voices). Maybe in general, Japanese seiyuu are "better" than english, but without speaking both languages, its next to impossible for most of us to actually fairly compare them.
And there are good dubs out there.

Had this particular debate alot with pals, who are bigger anime nubs than me. I continue to argue that I can still hear at least enough of the performance to judge wether or not the voice acting is good, even though I don't understand the language. In general, I just use the subs to get the gist of what is being communicated, and listen to how the voice actor delivers the communication via inflection and tonality and stuff. It's just performing, and you can always judge a performance, if you have an idea of what is being portrayed. But of course I would agree, it's easier when you also understand the language.

Perhaps because English is my first language while I don't really understand Japanese and because I'm more used to Japanese seiyuu, in general dubbing series in English just sounds so awkward at least personally. There are a good number of fantastic English dubs and probably many terrible Japanese voice actors, but hearing those characters speak in English is just off-putting for me :[ just a personal thing, really.
It's okay, I feel your pain. I dunno, people disagreeing with your tastes doesn't necessarily mean you, as a person, are unpopular. Just keep trucking I guess >.<
