Well, yeah, there are alot of "big name" shows you are missing. You have less than 100 completed anime, and there are alot of notable anime out there thats been released in the past 30-40 years. Rather than just list them all, if you want notable anime, the chart at the top of the page is full of them, and you haven't watched everything on that chart. I doubt anyone here other than maybe Kaal has.

If you're asking what it's about in general, MAL does a pretty good job in general. Basically it's about a bunch of people who are supposed to duke it out and try to become the new God of Time and Space of the world. To save time or something, you could read the first few chapters of the manga to get a feel of what it's about in general.
It does have a lot of characters that are either batshit crazy or going to be batshit crazy.

I feel like Denpa Onna is pretty similar in this regard as well, despite the moe factor and the author of its source material is a fan of NisiOisiN's writing (bakemonogatari) and it shows even when animated. Paniponi dash has a lot of otaku references so it might be not one of the first to watch. Maria Holic, is pretty hit or miss since it plays on a lot of 'strange' tropes such as the trap, the raging lesbian lead (who's retarded, by the way) fanservice, etc.
so yeah, go with Arakawa/Denpa Onna/Soredemo Machi/SZS, i'd say. i listed them in order from least to most episodic(kind of), since some people can't stand anime structured as such, which i feel plays an important part in how its received by the viewer.

Honestly some of the shows I've seen don't even deserve to be rated a 1, so why bother rating them at all? Is there any big name shows I'm missing off my list other than Gurren Lagaan? Not just comedy, but action, mystery etc? Well, yeah, there are alot of "big name" shows you are missing. You have less than 100 completed anime, and there are alot of notable anime out there thats been released in the past 30-40 years. Rather than just list them all, if you want notable anime, the chart at the top of the page is full of them, and you haven't watched everything on that chart. I doubt anyone here other than maybe Kaal has.
I've seen everything on the list except Gintama.
