The thing with books is that they are just text on a page, and you experience only the text. With a movie or whatever, you are experiencing what you see and what you hear together. That is twice the amount of focus required than reading a book, and when faced with this focus intensive challenge, to understand or comprehend it all as it happens is more enjoyable than an unchallenged single-focused text-on-page.
A visual novel is similar except you also have text included in what you see but the backgrounds are still to make up for it.
TL;DR: books are probably the least effective medium to be popular in today's world. They are completely obsolete and should have been completely taken out of today's society by the 1970s.
That is actually somewhat true except for the fact that movies and VNs are much more difficult and expensive to make which means less risk taking, tighter deadlines and thus they generally can't make use of that extra potential. Also movies are usually made to be easy to follow so claiming that they are more challenging to comprehend is generally wrong.

The thing with sex is that it is just too much effort, and you experience only penetration. With masterbation or whatever, you are experiencing what you move and lack of effort together. That is twice the amount of positives than having sex, and when faced with this effort intensive challenge, to not pay money or jack off as it happens is more enjoyable than a costly woman-focused sex-on-bed.
A ona hole is similar except you also have no effort included in what you see but the feeling is still to make up for it.

Finished Planetarian. Nothing impressive but still a solid story. And since it was Key, I already knew what was coming but
As for this medium argument, I don't really see how you can say books are obsolete (bookstores on the other hand...lol). In fact, I'd argue that books require (or have the option to) more focus because you need to envision everything that is being written to get the most out of it. Shouldn't it be the opposite because movies mean you don't have to think about what stuff looks like when it's presented to you? I'd even argue the reason books aren't popular today is because most people are illiterate, lazy, lack imagination or all of the above. Furthermore, books tend to have far more intricate and subtle details that you either would not pick up in a movie or would get neglected in a movie adaption. Emotions are an example: a book can describe that for a full page and you get completely immersed in what that character is feeling; visually, this is impossible to convey beyond facial expressions and a soliloquy of thoughts have a different kind of impact. Of course in the end, you have good and bad of everything; some people prefer one type of medium over the other, but none are objectively superior to another.

There's beauty in writing that can't be replaced by anything else either....

Is there too much difference between EX version and normal one? I'm not sure which one to get, since it seems EX has improvements over the original, but the patch isn't completely working with it. Am I missing to much if I play the normal version, or does EX only have H-scenes as an extra?
Well, since there's all this talk about VNs, I'm currently looking for more to play, since my vacations are coming and I'll have way too much free time for my own good. I think I'm going to play Tsukihime, Little Busters, Demonbane and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia (once its full patch comes out). The ones I have played that I've enjoyed (in no particular order) are utawarerumono, Tears to tiara, edelweiss, kira kira, Ef - a fairy tale of the two, Canvas 2, sharin no kuni, Da Capo, Da Capo II and Fate/Stay Night. I don't really mind lenght, and I'm not that bothered about it being old or having no voices, but I'm not very fond of extreme guro stuff. If any of you know any good VN similar to one of those that has an english translation, please share your knowledge with me :D
And because this is supposedly an anime discussion thread, just sharing my thoughts (even though they're quite shallow) on some I'm watching this season:
Episode 10 was just a boring recap. Is anyone watching this? I don't think it's bad, but I also don't think it's good. I just keep watching for the sake of finishing it and because it can be a bit entertaining once in a while.
I thought it was kinda interesting, some guys go solving puzzles and get prizes. It's still just kinda interesting. Last episode I watched was 11, and that guy with the white hair (Rook?) finally returned, I liked the show better when he was the boss, so now it should get a bit better, a bit too late since I think it's ending (or has already ended and the subber I was following is just delayed this week).
I think this show is just awesome. I love the twins and Yarizui. Such a shame that it's just 12 episodes long, I want more ): Is it just me or does that guy with the red cap look a bit like Sato? Maybe it's not intended though.
I'm also disappointed because they didn't make Airi's route. Such a shame. It's nice, but I'm positive Airi's route would've been nicer.
I was going to write a bit about all the others I'm watching, but I've realized I don't really have anything interesting to say. This post was supposed to be only the question about little busters, but I guess I got a little excited >.< I don't blame anyone for not reading it, I know I probably wouldn't xD

EX introduced 3 new Heroines in the form of Kanata the twin, Saya the spy and Sasasasa something the girl with the blue hair that does softball or w/e. EX has H-Scenes but they all suck as if they were the ultimate form of trolling. That and the H-Scene BGM.
