Was the first anime I ever watched in it's entirety (save Moomin and some stray episode of Starzinger in my childhood, and maybe some Pokémon on TV) - and sporadic watching of the first two episodes of Sailor Moon). I hung out at a Swedish Diablo II forum around that time, and digital fansubbing was about to explode, and some guy posted something about it. Having read the Dragonball manga I was interested, and started to survey the downloading options at that time (weird FTP's I had got ahold of somehow, searching on altavista or some similar search engine for sources, Kazaa and Napster) and finally got the series downloaded on my 56k modem after a couple of nights, missing episodes that had to be located etc. Then I basically marathoned the whole thing, eyes glued to the screen throughout the night. Hell, I was 12 years old or so, captivated by the whole experience. The magic of being a child... And to think that it has lead me to follow anime regularly, with some dips and tops in enthusiasm, for about 10 years now.
Anyone else have any special memories of "discovering" anime?
I always liked anime, but I never got real serious about watching it before I found this place. Before I came to ADT, I was the stereotypical noob who had only seen like Code Geass/Death Note/TTGL/etc., though I had seen a few other series that I really liked.

I use Horrible for pretty much everything, unless Crunchyroll isn't doing the show or if there is a better alternative that's not slow/I hate CR's subs (ie TWGOK).
And this isn't as bad as Chihiro. TWGOK 9 still not out. I need Nagase-sensei ;;

HOLY FUCK! With the bayonet too! I'm totally watching VOTOMs now, just so I can watch this.
I would use Horrible because I use them for almost everything else, but for some reason on my PS3 Media Server Steins;Gate from Horrible has their subs waaay off and I can't watch it so if I want to watch it on TV I have to wait for commie.
No, definitely not. Puella Magi Oriko Magika is an awesome manga and actually has a meaningful plot and nice characters. You should read the manga regardless. To love ru ~ darkness is only popular because it's like yuri, ecchi, and h. -.-

Yuri is good stuff.
..I admit, you're right. But what I'm trying to say is that it goes beyond yuri.....something like that...whatever, I'm going to check up on Kimi no Iru Machi

So it is ecchi, and has a good plot and nice characters?

You should probably just look it up on manga fox or something. I'm not really helping... >.<

I watched it and enjoyed it, especially the 'fay' character. It wasn't really impressive though, but it is a fun anime
Is it pervy/gory?
Not at all. It was a fun anime, but I think the best part about it was the music. It doesn't really conclude since the manga was ongoing at that point. If you want the main plot elements from the manga, you have to watch the OVAs, I think there were like 2-3. However they're standalone and you won't understand it without the manga.
Well, that was an interesting point of view. I couldn't help but feel disgusted at how they killed people who were just bitten. Ignorance is such an important theme in this show... Also, I felt really really bad for those poor vampires, again, who wants nothing to do but survive... but I guess it's them or us.
Argh, this reminded me why I loved this show so much ><
On the topic of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles i think the manga was better, though it crosses with xxxholic, another amazing anime though IMO. they are pretty different though. Tsubasa would probably appeal to most people in at least some way. it's basically like an adventure with some dark undertones, and has some pretty quality characters and characterization. Also the OVAs don't even get to the end of the story in the manga afaik so unless u really want to see it animated then it's kind of a waste. I'm kinda biased being a fan of them.
Also yeah the music is pretty amazing for the anime, also + Show Spoiler +
the kinda dark references/foreshadowing that are never able to come to fruition in the original showing. left me kinda disappointed before seeing the OVAs and reading the manga
...Do you really not know what Madoka is? I mean, you are a fairly active poster in this thread, and Madoka was only like the most popular anime in this thread by far a few months ago, so I can't imagine you somehow missed it
