It would be no different to if every male strawhat magically got facial transformation to resemble some male kpop star. It's the differences and variety that made onepiece interesting.
Now that Usopp got magical beans that give him abilities exactly like a plant devil fruit , or a nami who went to the same breast cosmetic surgeon that did the boobjobs for robin, hancock and every other notable attractive female characters it's tranformed my view of onepiece from something truely unique to a shonen that caters to pubescent boys who like magical beans and F cup breasts like the other 90% of shonen.
Having said that, I'm glad Oda didn't give Perona F cups as well, but given his track record of catering to pubescent boys, I wouldn't put it past him to do that in the future.
like over 80% of people who read One Piece as over the age of 18 so your theory about catering to younger boys doesn't really hold water. Whats the source of your stats sir? This is true.
NHK apparently did a program on One Piece's demographics. These were the results. + Show Spoiler +

Maybe Oda just likes drawing giant boobs.

Dang those demographics, wonder what it's like for Western comics. Although actually thinking about it, feels like it may be similar.

No one watches OP for the over exaggerated female forms that Oda draws. While its true that at all ages men like boobs, as you go older in the demographic the interest in 2D boobs lessens imo.

Western comics are mostly geared towards younger audiences and I highly doubt there would be more people over the age of 55 reading any western comic then under 18.

I don't mind big boobs on robin, because she was introduced as a femme fatal character or boa the most beautiful human in the world. It makes sense that the most beautiful woman in the world would have a proportioned body that makes kim kardishian look like a hippo. Nami was introduced as a nimble thief with a body suitable for a pickpocket and now has the exact same body shape that robin and hancock have. Swap their faces around on their bodies and there's no way you'd say they are out of place now.
It's the small details and extra details that divides something from being excellent to a classic. Naruto's a prime example of when the author decided small details were irrelevant , because it started off as a classic and ended up as a typical shounen. (time skip occurred)
Luffy beating Enel or crocidile makes sense within the context of the story. Things like luck and fate can explain a lot of things without detracting from the logical flow of the story. Luffy mastering haki is a logical transition. Chopper furthering his ability with rumble ball is a logical transition. Franky getting a superior mech body is a logical transition. Coby growing taller and stronger is a logical transition.
Nami gaining F cup boobs is not a logical transition outside of cosmetic surgery. Usopp spending 2years doing the same type of training luffy did and surviving it whilst only having magical beans to show for it is not a logical transition.
I'm thinking nami and Usopp met up during the timeskip and visited a world reknowned cosmetic surgeon who also did Usopps pecs/biceps. Usopp spent 2years smoking shrooms the whole time imagining he was training. After their surgery nami and usopp both went to a magical store that sold lightning wands and magical beans because the extent of their growth amounts to that only.
I doubt I could have done a better job than Oda, but clearly he decided to take the easy shortcut. Other manga writers that didn't take the shortcut are the ones who take long hiatus when they stumble across problems that need resolving. Berserk and HunterXhunter comes to mind. (though hunterxhunter has another set of problems that are as equally as frustrating to see as onepiece).
It's the break from the realism within the onepiece world that destroyed its credibility for me. It started off with Ace not knowing haki (why would you introduce a concept important as haki so much later in the manga when you know you're going to introduce huge plotholes?) and now there's constant breaks from the onepiece realism that weren't seen during the first half of the manga so far. It's really no different to how naruto , except naruto broke its realism much much earlier.

Don't come into this thread and compare how bad Naruto has gotten to One Piece simply because the author changed 2 characters appearance over a 2yr time skip.
How can you even come up with that many paragraphs explaining that? That's like 2 max. You seem to have a lot of hate for One Piece that's unjustified.
You complain about how One Piece breaks from realism but are fine with a guy who transform into fiery phoenix or a guy who single handedly built a spaceship and then flew to the moon and is now living there with random aliens and no oxygen at all. There is very little in the story that is actually how it is in the real world. Heck 90% of the boats/ships aren't even right and shouldn't float at all I'd say.

How is 2 years not enough plausible time for boobs to grow and a guy who was training to become muscular? Nami's boobs weren't that small before the time skip (some of the time) and she was still pretty young so not outside the realm of possibility (especially when pretty much EVERY female has exaggerated body proportions and plenty of the males have outrageous body types as well).
As for Ace not knowing Haki, well he was certainly capable of it but maybe he just did not develop the skill yet? People generally don't develop extra skills unless there is a need for it and he was pretty powerful already (and a logia).

Wth OP has the best timeskip possible because none of the characters changed at all.
They all kept their selfs, importance and screen time. All that happened is their appearance and powers. This is the most perfect timeskip possible. And you compare it to friggin Naruto where after the timeskip every Rookie became horrible?

Yeah and how many years ago was that? ^^ Shikamaru had that one fight indeed but after that he was discarded like the others.
Oda will make every character important in the final battle I am 100% sure of it.

Talking about boobs and whatnot... I wonder how much the publishers influence the artists to make the boobs bigger. I thought someone in this thread said that 'they encouraged authors to have a timeskip' because it's popular among the fans. Could this be something similar? Or did Oda all of the sudden want to start drawing massive melons?
Honestly, I don't like those oversized curves either. Hell, I don't like all those photoshopped bodies that fly at our faces on a daily basis. But I am going to assume that I, and the people who think like me, are the minority. If it weren't popular (the bewbs), then we probably wouldn't see as much of it. But it's everywhere.
Whenever a manga introduces supposedly ugly (in other words, realistic-looking) girls, I applaud it! It has saddened me somewhat that One Piece also got on the big boob train. And it's the same for those perfect abs I suppose. But this issue is much bigger than just One Piece alone. That's why I wonder if it's really Oda that decided it, or if it's an influence from the outside that changed his drawing-style. Perhaps to be succesful among a big audience, publishers expect their authors to give the fanservice their fans demand.

Who on earth cares, if you're thinking about boobs at all instead of following the great story then you're just making an immature obsession out of it.
|
did you guys just discuss on the boobs matter in OP universe without even mentioning Princess Shirahoshi? I even googled for her name risking that anyone would see her on my screen in my work because HER BOOBS ARE VERY IMPORTANT.
I mean, like, thats as big as you can and as pervy as Oda allows to show lol.
|
She is a mermaid....Mermaids have to be beautiful. There is no record of ugly mermaids.
|
Granny kokolo... Though she could have been the bomb in her you ger years (even before she joined Tom at water se7en.)
|
like luffy/zoro/sanji, i have absolutely no idea who is that granny koko...
who again? did my memory auto delete her image again whenever someone mentioned that

Because only immature people ever think about boobs right? Don't get me wrong I enjoy the story first and foremost, would still follow one piece even if all the female characters were flat and ugly but that being said I don't see the problem with drawing them being attractive and having large boobs.
I never got that line of thinking in general. Even in other shows and media the second a boob pops out or is exaggerated suddenly that show is immature and just appealing to teenage boys. Bullshit, All straight guys of all ages love boobs, it's just nice to have them around from time to time. This is more of a general rant then directed at you.

I'm sorry then, I should have expressed myself more clearly.
If you're making a big deal out of boobs that are portrayed in One Piece (or any other manga or television show), then it's an immature obsession. Enjoy the story instead of caring about fluff. My point is that it's dumb to even think about this topic. Just enjoy one piece, enjoy the boobs and don't make a big deal out of things that don't matter.

Just so you guys know, Nami and Robin's breast have been getting bigger and bigger ever since the whole Baroque Works arc. It isn't something that just happened at the time skip. And it wasn't something the editors pushed on Oda. Judging from the SBS, Oda is a tits man. God bless him.
