keep them all as allies. its too late to have additions to the crew. jinbei was on the edge of what was an acceptable timing of character introduction and development. new additions now just wont receive the same amount of love

Yeah I agree. Let's remember Luffy already has a fleet in the thousands from Dressrosa. I see the Wano arc ending with Wano and Zou as official allies of the straw hats.

Yeah, at this point I think its too late in the game to get a proper new Crew Member, outside of cases like Jinbe

I'd enjoy a new crew member if they brought something new. The only crew addition I have ever been disappointed by was Franky because I liked Paulie 50x more than Franky, and I think that sentiment has continued to be correct. Paulie is still awesome IMO.
It all depends on what they bring. We dont need any generic additions. Can there be some sort of interesting addition? The crew doesn't have a logia. The crew doesn't have an actual pet (do they pick up Laboon after going to Lodestar and Raftel?). Carrot seems like a waste because she's just generic, same with Yamato (for now). Momonuske makes sense because Robin needs to teach him Poneglpyhs so either its a crash course or he comes. He also fills the "apprentice" role of Buggy and Shanks, which is empty.
For me, that is what interests me, new members that fill a new niche. Right now I think they are very well rounded, but I am open to a Laboon addition for sure. The rest of the options I dont see a need for, but I'm open to it if the reasons make sense. I didn't see a need for Jinbe before his helmsman performance either.

What is Jinbei's role anyway? The crew managed to sail without his "helmsman" skills before, so there is really no practical need for him. I guess he's good from a story standpoint, knowing a lot of people and places and history to fill the crew in. So I guess he fills the "grizzled veteran" role of the crew. Still, it feels a bit hollow. To me, there seems to be some kind of an emotional disconnect between him and the rest.

iirc oda has always portrayed usopp to be a helmsman that didnt really know what he was doing? still might be worth having a guy who does the job well

Almost never too late to have people join them. Rogers crew had people join for only the last voyage after all.

I think the grizzled vet role is what I've always seen him as.
Also, always good to have a fishman on a crew with DF users just in case.

My theory is that a fishman is 100% essential for reaching laugh tale and/or the one piece.

Laugh Tale is such a stupid name. Same as Mary Geoise. It would be as if Oda comes back and says Roger's name is Logel and now everyone is forced to call him that. It'll always be Raftel, Mariejois, and Roger to me.

Yeah that's fair. Watched the most recent episode of OP anime today. I'm so incredibly suspicious of Roger's death. There was clearly more to it than sparking a new generation. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it felt like Oden understood Roger finally achieved something, not just the end of an era and beginning of a new one.

I won't defend Mary Geoise (though TBH Mariejois isnt much better), but Laugh Tale makes sense in context, and you know... are actual words. It would be extremely different if Roger was 'Logel', since 1.) the name Roger is an actual name, and 2.) a name that is deeply associated with Pirates in general (Jolly Roger, for instance).

Laugh Tale is the actual name Oda wrote. Raftel is a translation error. How does it make sense to call the actual name stupid?
If Luffy was actually called Ruffy, would Ruffy be a stupid name, or is it simply a case that you got emotionally attached to Luffy as that was what you got used to?

I don't think it was any one scene, its just their actions yanno? Rodger and Whitebeard had battles and then drank together, WB never did that with either. Roger gave Shanks the Straw Hat, Whitey met with Shanks about BB (who Shanks and WB have a grudging respect of shown through their real fear of his ambitions). This also, IMO, is shown at Marineford where WB and Shanks seem to both have a better relationship with the Garp/Sengoku gen than the Akainu gen (by the way why are there no prominent marines in the Shanks/BB age range? I only found Smoker, who really isn't at that power level at all).

My impression/theory is that the type of person who, despite being in the know, decides the navy/world government is gonna be on the right side of history, is either a coward or not ambitious enough. Characters who reach in the way necessary to become truly extraordinary do not tend to end up in the navy. For example, we have already seen Koby really struggling with his loyalty to the navy.
